On PC, if you have a digital key, you basically associate it with your battle.net account, and only you owns the game.
But how does this work on consoles?
For digital purchases it seems obvious, and works the same as on PC (I guess).
But what about if you purchase a physical disc?
I mean, will you have to create a single account for that disc game, and nobody else can ever associate an account with that game key embedded in the CD?
Sorry for the confusion but I find it confusing.
With D3, I believe online was optional on consoles, so you could pop in the disc and play solo without any account. But with D4, online and a PS+ account are mandatory.
Whatever I did on console during the beta showed up in my pc game and vice-versa. So, I suppose any Diablo IV licenses connected with my battlenet account would all be seen as the same license but for different platforms. I’m not sure, but I would assume you could only have one pc, xbox, and ps Diablo IV game license connected to any one battlenet account at the same time.
I’d imagine you just log onto your battle.net account and add the code there.
From my beta experience the full release difference is you need ps plus for playstation and if you want cross progression between pc and ps4/5 you would need to own 2 copies of the game and link the accounts on playstation. So my understanding is if you wanted it separate you would make a new blizzard account for whichever one.
PS auto links when running the game just need to access blizzard from pc phone for the code.
I could be wrong and sorry if its confusing, but this is my understanding.
It is confusing lol. What do you think happens with a physical console disc? Do you think you can only play it with ONE battle net account, and basically not be able to sell it or play it on other console?
Basically for digital version, it’s simple to understand: It works identical to PC. You have one CDKEY for one battle.net account. It’s for physical version I’m confused.
I guess I’m asking this because I want to buy the physical version (cool box and all), but if there is no advantage to the digital version, I think I might just get digital.

My understanding is the physical copy will work exactly the same as digital,It basically only contains a old build of the game and installer. One disc linked to one account.
No advantage as far as i am aware, aside from maybe save you a little data for the install, but honestly how much data probably not much.
Some one correct me if i am wrong. Physical copies are no longer what the used to be especially in the case of always online games.
Basically just a collectable item you have nothing offline playable on it.Hope this gives you the correct information.
Yeah No offline like D3 is my current understanding.

Naw, should be able to use the disc for several accounts thats on the console.
Both accounts have to be linked to battle.net account tho… because requiring two copies especially physical. would be impossible for couch co op. What ya gonna do. istall 2 disc drives so you can have both disc’s running at once?
D3 couch co op. 4 people. 1 disc. (online)
Easiest way to find out though… buy the copy… make friends account link to battle.net and try.
Oh I mean the blizzard account, I am sure couch-co-op is fine. Sharing the one game disc with the other users on the console should be fine.
It would be kinda insane if it effected couch co-op play.
Yeah… Interesting… Now answer this one…
Are they going to have to have two different installs… for digital? Hows that possible? It’s not.
So logic dictates. What I said. They are just going to need a battle.net account. to share the game thats on the console.
I think we are on the same page… I agree. They were asking if there is any advantage to disc copy, my understanding no.They are the same experience. Unlike D3 which had offline mode for consoles, but it was also only released years after launch on PC. Not the same case this time around so basically same situation no matter which copy you buy, aside form what device you are playing on
