In Softcore I log in and can go Hordes almost like 20 open pugs and hardcore from t1-t3 it’s like nothing.
I open a group and no one joins.
Where is everyone? Hardcore feels really lonely tbh.

Not many people play hardcore. Going by Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation achievement percentages, you’re looking at < 3% of players who even have a Level 50 HC character. As they all pretty much agree with each other, I’m sure Battle.Net isn’t that much different.
Now, also take into account that many SSF players choose to play HC and many HC players already have their set groups, that tiny percentage of players becomes even smaller.
And it makes sense. One major thing about HC is you need to trust the other players, which isn’t true with SC. I’m not sure about you, but I have a hard enough time running content with players I trust, let alone randoms.
Can’t play it w/ the state of the game, 1 lag spike = Dead…
Exploding mob piles that you get walled into = dead…
Console blows for HC…
Console blows for MM’ng…
Console has less than 2% completing Lillith, as it’s mechanics blow…
List goes on…
HC has kind of always been like this. You need to find an active clan / website / community etc to get decent people to play with. Random public games have always been empty for all the various mentioned reasons and others.
I tried hardcore mode for the first time ever yesterday, never did so before in any other Diablo game, and I actually like the mode for this specific reason. Diablo IV’s shared world was never my favorite part of the game, as I tend to play on my own most of the time and apart from encountering two or three other players during some events, I really felt alone in this massive world
Combined with the experience of starting from scratch, as it’s my first hardcore character, it felt like a different game. I hope it stays this way until my inevitable encounter with the Butcher at some point…
Yeah if you play HC and turn off crossplay, you’ll basically never see anybody. At least, that’s how it used to be, HC was always a ghost town.
I did notice towards the end of last season, there was significantly more players around - I imagine this was a combination of people being pretty engaged in the game, and the game becoming progressively easier to the point of absurdity, so maybe more people figured what the hell, might as well try HC.
Not sure what participation is like now, but the reality is that we’re so fragmented because of all the different difficulties, you’re less likely to see people even if they’re playing.
Sounds awesome. Probably why anyone is actually playing it, for peace and quiet.
grouping with random people in hc = you are asking to die
hc since day 1 of d4 and every diablo before it.
rule of thumb = only group with random people when carrying or getting carried. for group content = stick with your buddies.
If hardcore wasnt dead, it’s definitely dead now after the latest patch. Literally, characters are dead due to game crashes, and like myself, i have given up leveling another char and playing D4 altogether. I wouldnt be surprise that the total hc player count is reduced by 50% with the recent halloween patch. It’s like Thanos snapping the fingers in D4.
Utterly shocking with the current D4 state of affair, especially for hc players. No rollbacks, no char restores, just alot of disappointment.
What torment level are you on? Most people are in T4. Also best to join a community feel free to hop into ours.
I agree with you, but Blizzard could add leaderboards which would help to increase the player count to hardcore…
When the elixir of death was in the game, more people did play HC, Blizzard should either allow fallen HC characters to transition to Soft-core on death or bring back the elixirs of death. Personally Softcore to me is so boring because there is no challenge to the game whatsoever where in HC you do have to be careful about pit pushing…
Well, part of it’s the structure of the game, and you’re going to be fighting the public here.
For increasing popularity, leaderboards would work, if only hardcore got them. You want leaderboards? You must play hardcore. Softcore is just a training ground.
And that’s honestly how I feel it should be.
Though you’d get massive complaining if this happened, and probably some people would quit in protest. But if you add leaderboards to both HC & SC, it’s not going to change anything, as people are still going to just stay SC.
