[HARDCORE] All Good Things Quest - WTF!

What is wrong with the people at Blizzard? You’ve completed 97% of the storyline, you reach the quest “All Good Things,” enter the chamber with a character at Paragon level 180 and glyphs leveled to 46 (legendary), not to mention your gear, and what happens? The floor inflicts permanent death on you - WTF! I understand a tough mob or a boss that overpowers you in a fight, but a collapsing floor that you have no chance against? Who in their right mind creates a quest like this in the MAIN STORYLINE on hardcore mode? There’s no warning before the quest about what might happen, no information at all. You go through quest after quest, wanting to experience the main story, and then this ridiculous and idiotic idea of a collapsing floor ruins all the effort and time you’ve spent in the game to gear up, level up all your glyphs, and earn Paragon levels. This quest is an insult to hardcore players - something like this should never happen! The person who designed it should burn in hell! I demand that all characters lost on this stupid quest be restored - yes, I know what your response will be, but I refuse to believe it can’t be done! I am a huge fan of the Diablo series. I spent over 10 years in Diablo III, mainly on Hardcore, and I’ve been playing Diablo IV since its launch, I don’t even know how many hours, but I’ve already spent over 40 hours since the launch, and I had a very good opinion about it until this idiotic quest.

Remember! Nothing can kill you like the floor in Diablo IV.

I agree with this 100%. This quest is unfair to hardcore players and is completely unthoughtful. Blizzard should reflect on this and fix their mistake by restoring the characters.

Unbelievable that this was botched too

I play sorcerer and just lost my character too. With the spell animation, the floor wasn’t visible. I feel betrayed by the dumbest mecanic I saw in my 25 last years of HC player on the Diablo franchise.

I died to it too, but my rage calmed down over a week. Not the first and not the last HC char I’ll have that dies to random stuff. I’ve been playing HC since D1, and I think you’re severely biased by D3. It’s been such a lenient game that playing softcore in D3 literally was unrewarding. D4 offers one of the biggest challenges in HC, if you disregard POE pinnacle bosses.

Here’s the thing: the Lilith fight does the same, and in the original campaign I died to that once as well, until I figured out the ground breaks away three times. You receive several hints for the breakaway ground in All Good Things (let go of things, hold on to others, with two hands reaching for eachother on the part that doesn’t fall both in written out lore pieces and Neyrelle talking) , then you see the ground breakaway. It’s not a game issue, it’s a player issue.

You figured it out. Congrats. That’s what HC is about. Next up: find out and figure out the Citadel one-shot and environmental death mechanics.

I hope you do go on and harrass some poor CS agent for your character to be revived.

Blaming Blizzard for your skill issue. The breaking floor is clearly telegraphed and the lore that’s being read out is also obvious indicators. I didn’t even realize the floor was actually breaking because I was standing on the most logical spot to stand which was on top of the motif

Blaming Blizzard for you not using your eyes is comical

OP is 100% correct. This is despicable. Whoever is responsible should be fired immediately.

Happened to me yesterday, lvl 60 paragon 80, the floor instant cracked just after the cinematic. I died before the the mobs appear. I was of speechless of the stupidity of this thing. I play since years and years now, I only play in HC and never a death got me as frustrated as I was after this itdiot feature. It’s a shame that kind of thing can happen in the sotry more that you MUST do to unlock mercenary etc and just want to enjoy the story mode. A SHAME.

Whelp I just died to it too. Not even mad or sad. Well maybe a little. Mostly dumbfounded. Was steamrolling through torment 2 and have accumulated decent gear at this point. I selftaught the Lilith thing and never died to it, had a feeling this might be permadeath too but I didn’t see the floor tile crack under me while fighting all the mobs on top of it. Sigh.

Wish it wasn’t near the very end (or what I assume is near the end). Guess I’ll have to speed rush through the campaign now to get it out of the way and get back to “normal” openworld gameplay. Sigh.

Most dangerous enemy is the floor / terrain / elevator boss -_-

Biggest bummer is probably losing the seasonal reputation progress. That thing is slow and tedious… edit: just realized that mercenaries don’t get reset!!

I play on softcore and it never occurred to me how bad this would be for HC players. Yikes!

Follow up- just stay in the area with the Sistine chapel style hand imagery. That won’t fall. I noticed everything falling, but in my head, “surely the important NPC won’t die,” and I just stuck around Neyrelle.

I’ve been playing hardcore since there was such a thing and this has to be the dumbest mechanic I have ever seen in any iteration of a game. Further confirmation that these developers do not play their own game.

It is not challenging. The story is boring. You are lulled into the drag of just getting it over with and hitting escape to get through every godforsaken cut scene. It is just a really, really stupid “gotcha” for boredom. Thankfully, I was able to clear that one little section of map (the only reason I was playing back through the quest on a HC toon, because of course if you completed the campaign on a SC toon then played HC, it would leave a piece of the map covered with fog). I just wish I hadn’t been wearing 3 mythics and fully upgraded gear when I did it. I was kind looking forward to putting glyphs into my paragon board and leveling those things up. Ho hum.

I was really on the fence about jumping over to PoE2. Not anymore.

P.S. And for clarification, I was wearing a GA DR Tyrael’s Might, triple masterworked on the DR. Hence why I was blithely frolicking through the campaign without paying much attention just to clear that little bit of map. It is hard to articulate just how STUPID it is that something like that is created that can insta-kill someone extra overgeared for the content.

Yeah I died to that too and had no idea what killed me. Suddenly just dead like something had one shotted me

Happened to me just right now.
Earthquake barb with 2 mythic items, i was just finishing the campaign and thanks to EQ you absolutely cant see whats happening below you, after i died i took screen and i was actually standing 1-2px on the edge of safespot, it sucks…

Agree with this sentiment.
Those claiming its clearrly telegraphed are flat out wrong or have initially configured the screen brightness (that logo thing when you first install and launch) above intended gritty dark feel. Playing Diablo 4 as intended reduces the gamma /brightness to a point this particular event is barley visible if not expecting it.

Hardcore is awesome fun but the annoyance of this particular room is it is not as clear as virtually every other avoidable mechanic.

PS. second play through, second death. same spot.
First time i didnt know what happened and assumed i blinked and got hit by a mob.
Second time was determined to be more careful. But alas instadeath and couldnt see the cause.

Came here and had an OH moment. Just increasease the visibility… or have one of the NPCs give a speach bubble that say , “what is happening, the floor is crumbling, move !”… 3/4 seconds prior

Pretty wild, cant really blame the game for it. But the level of difficulty up to this point has been laughable. Kind of luls you into a false sense of security and then the floor literally drops out. Feels cheap, but as do most deaths in HC.

This just happened to me on softcore and i immediately rushed to the forums to see how pissed people are about this mechanic. Definitely would be upset if i was on HC. The quest npc didnt even finish talking and the ground looked like more of a puzzle than a death trap. And there isnt anything similar to this mechanic in the entire game. Very surprised they made this into the live verison.

I’ve played a considerable amount of HC and I understand this goes against the very principle but I would truly like if there was an undo or revive button for fallen characters as sometimes things happen like bugs where death was totally unavoidable and beyond your control.
Also a lot of character AoE does obscure what you need to be seeing.
Probably going back to SC for S8. Not as fun but also don’t end up hating the game or myself quite as much afterwards.

I literally died Twice on that Quest now. The first time caus i didnt know what is going on and now the Second time Caus an Elite Mob spawned and knocked me on the falling Plattform. I have to say this is by far the worst Designed Quest i have ever seen in any Videogame
