I’d just like to commend the developers on a job well done. I know that you’ve received a huge amount of criticism and feedback. I really feel like you should all take a moment and recognize that your hard work over the last year and sticking to it has paid off and you should feel good about it.
I returned for season 4 and for the first time in an ARPG ever, made it to 100. Why have I never done so before? Because of the boring grind. PoE and D2, I simply never bothered. There is only so much I can take of repeating the same things over and over.
D4 now has enough different things to do that it wasn’t boring. I recognize that its easier than ever to get to 100. I’d say it could have been a bit harder. Either with a slower ramp in 99-100 or how much XP is rewarded in nightmare dungeon above tier 50, or in just how much damage we are doing making the path faster. Regardless of how you’d do it, I’d be all for a bit more of a grind to get to 100.
The method of increasing power with the blacksmith is really quite nice. Go farm mats, return and craft. It’s so simple that it works really well. Gives a nice clear goal that makes playing rewarding.
Where to go from here: I’m sure the forum is flooded with suggestions. My 2 cents for whatever its worth and I’m sure I’m hitting some of the same things as others.
dungeon bosses are a complete joke. our damage is just too high for them to not face melt just by looking at them. Wondering if a gear score should effect their HP and DMG output.
Dungeon layouts are still a bit of a problem. I LOVE the look of them. I paused quite a few times in some dungeon areas and just watched the effects. water falls, lava. The art on walls. Blizzard nails it there.
I think there just needs to be more variety. Especially with more open maps. A lot of dungeons have such narrow passage ways. The rare times I hit a more open map its just so nice.
There are still quite a few maps where I have to backtrack to finish finding some mob to kill to unlock the way forward.
Obviously the last year has had more important tasks to hit. But maybe now a dungeon rework can occur.
The season loop is just too short. Getting to the season bad guy happens so fast. I feel like the diablo team needs to look at PoE a bit more. Good league mechanics that are routinely interacted with along with a nice path to the league bad guy, they just achieve more in that. Don’t copy them too much though, I hardly ever get to the PoE league bosses because of the crazy grind or bad RNG gating. Please continue to cater to us casuals a bit more in that aspect. I know I sound a little contradictory there. There has to be a nice middle ground to find between d4’s too short season interaction and PoE’s insane grind.
End game bosses: I shouldn’t have to look up cheat sheets online for where to go or how to summon. Surely there is a simple fix to that. I should be able to open the quest system and toggle on that I want to go fight one of the bosses. and it can highlight better on the map where to go.
Anyway, I’m loving D4 now. After a year of your hardwork I see an amazingly bright future for the game as you continue your work. Thank you.
