About two weeks ago, while playing Diablo 4, my GPU temperature started to rise significantly (reaching nearly 90 degrees Celsius), which didn’t happen before. The issue doesn’t seem to be with the graphics card because I don’t encounter this problem with other games like Mortal Kombat 1, Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, among others.
To get things back to normal, I had to disable NVIDIA Reflex and change DLSS to “balanced” mode.
Has anyone else experienced this issue recently?
I have this isssue, for me the spike happening in enchanter window, when you open the enchanter UI, the temperature immediately goes up.
The amount of heat a GPU generates is directly proportional to its power draw. If you want to see why your GPU temperature in rising in D4 compared to other games, your best bet would be to monitor the amount of power the card is drawing in each application and then compare it. Assuming it’s the same GPU in the same build and in the same room there should be a noticeable difference in power draw.
90 degrees celsius is really high for a GPU, and a GPU shouldn’t be capable of hitting 90c with any application even at its full TDP. It suggests that there might be a problem with the physical GPU itself or the environment it’s being used in.
My RTX 4090 draws roughly between 320-400W with the highest possible settings at native 4k + (Reflex + boost). At 400W which is much higher than most GPUs the GPU temperature is still 60c to 62c. The card is also heavily overclocked and the limit is set at 600W or 133% in afterburner but it never draws nearly that amount in D4.
Check your fans, run fs windowed mode. Update your gfx card drivers.
I’ve already cleaned the fans (which weren’t very dirty) and updated the graphics card driver, but the issue persists. I live in Brazil, and we’re currently experiencing terrible heat, which surely contributes to the GPU temperature rising. However, it should happen with other games as well, not just with D4. In fact, I just tested what Horax mentioned above, and when opening the enchantment tab, the temperature does indeed increase.
I have an RTX 3060 TI running at 1080p. Until some time ago, I didn’t have this issue with D4, so I thought it might be some kind of bug or something.
Mocha, do you have any software to recommend for monitoring the power consumption that the graphics card draws in different applications?
I would recommend using RivaTuner in MSI Afterburner or alternatively using the performance overlay in GeForce Experience if you already use GeForce experience to update drivers and don’t want to install anything else. Just set the performance overlay to advanced and you should be able to toggle it on and off with Alt + R.
yeah mine throttles at 80 degrees, so…I’d be freaking out right now with 90’s. of course double check your cooling solution, but if it’s good…
I would probably stop playing D4 altogether, not worth a 1000dollar + card. What utter crap. (or any card for that matter).
I have same gfx as you. 3060 TI. And game is running between 90-120 fps. With everything on highest and DLSS.
You can use Asus Tweak 3, it has everything you need to monitor your gfx. You can also adjust power supply and fan control.
You can even create and check logs, if anything causes problems.
Man, I didn’t realize the game had a history of bricking 3080 gpus…which I have…from gigabyte…argh.
I mean really? gotta uninstall.
My card goes up to about 52-55 degrees max in game, idle temps are like 32.
It is a watercooled 3090ti.
I do have both fps settings limited to 60 for this game though. And power on my GPU set to 90%. 4k Ultra settings.
not an expert but i use 60 fps as well as ive been told it doenst make a difference to go higher. i dont know the temperature on my gpu to be honest, but it seem to be ok on my gtx 2060 super ^^
laughs in custom loop
no idea what you mean bruv
you could try to power limit with precision/afterburner
or add frame cap in d4 settings
Well if you have high refresh monitor you’d wanna exceed 60hz
but I’m not gonna lie and my eyes are old, it’s hard to see the difference past 80 or 90hz
I’ve been monitoring my card, but my fans are on max when I play D4, so I always kind of suspected something was going on.
Anyway, I’m not chancing anything for this game. It’s a shame but i’m going to have to shelve it until I cycle out one of my old 1080’s from my kids computers on the next upgrade cycle.
ugh.
Been playing on the 49 inch g9 (240hz 5120/1440)
as if id knew that ^^
my eyes are luckily ok but i really dont see these differences as well ^^
Download GPU Tweak 3. It is free and should work for any brand card.
Or something like NZXT CAM which has more features and some bloat. Also free.
I can def tell 60hz vs higher tho, so if I cap, its usually in the 75-100 range
Eh some games feel less jittery just depends.
ok? and i use it when playing d4? downloading it now ^^
It sits in your tray so you can just look at your temps and control your card fans and power.
CAM has a few more features but honestly either is fine I would start with GPU tweak3.
If you have an Asus card it comes with Armory so you may have it already.
oh i think i got such a program already. im really not a tech guy im like the dude who has a friend who builds a pc ^^ i think i have some weird overclocking program haha
