Almost any combination of skills or “build” is viable, but to a beginner I would stick to the meta builds on websites like maxroll. I would also avoid minion builds as they are significantly weaker then builds where you sacrifice your minions. Unless you want a challenge ofc 
Honestly, to a beginner, especially before level 70-100, I would suggest ignoring build guides and experimenting with anything that looks fun. You will get a deeper understanding of your class and probably more enjoyment out of the game.

lol I’ve been playing with minions and I’m getting bored. Running through veteran difficulty currently. Can’t wait to get to something more challenging.

Playing Minions get more challengeing in later difficulties. If challenge you seek later, definetly avoid Bone Spear.

I went to WT3 and killed Varshan at level 38 this season. If you want a challenge that’s it. It’s as pointless as it is fun, though.
