This is a loot based game that consist of RNG guys. I understand getting junk loot, or quote on quote “loots that you don’t need” is considered as garbage, or junk or whatever you wanna call it…
Look, you need those “junk” loot to turn them into currencies to use for other aspect of the game. And they are essential.
You can either
- sell for gold
- salvage for mats
- store it for alts
- horde it
- just leave it on the ground
Game with RNG needs to have currencies sink and loop to sustain the gameplay loop. This isn’t new to D4, literally every game has this to certain degree.
there is a reason why so much loot is dropping, and you are not gonna want all of them. Because you need gold, you need mats, you need plentiful of them. Plus seeing loot explosion in itself is a dopamine hit.
Now, there is argument to be had if you want to have more quality loot drop, more often, higher rate etc… and remove some of the useless affixes, or replace with more useful ones. This is fine.
But you NEED garbage loot. Imagine if the only loot you will ever get for your build that drops you’d be done with the game in 1 hour ? maybe less… And you will be starved for mats or gold to perform other essential function of the game.
I agree ancestral drops should be higher, so more quality loot drop is good. But we do need a lot of loot to drop, yes I mean ones we don’t need.

Right, but to reduce the amount of clutter some visual aids would be welcome. One such feature would be a loot filter, where all un shown items would become partial materials and partial gold.
do you really feel like there is too much stuff dropping ? I honestly never felt the need to use a loot filter, even before S4 they overhauled loot. And i pick up everything lol
It is pretty easy for me to tell if I want that item or not. I think if a game needs loot filter, that imply the game has core design issue lol, because bloat-ness. Game should aim to not need a loot filter and also provide a positive experience.
Yes, actually. In fact I’ve never stopped feeling this way.

interesting… Do you feel a dopamine rush when you see loot explosion? Do you enjoy that feeling ?
Not unless there are * next to the items. Just being honest.
Edit: even with 1+ * next to the item, I don’t feel the dopamine hit because it is usually my luck that the * is on a poor affix. Furthermore, when it should feel good, a * on uniques, the roll ranges are so high that I don’t get the dopamine hit unless it is nearly BIS.
yea, absolutely, that is fair. Because we do need a increase in ancestral drop rate for sure. I agree on that.
And also if you see a purple beam right ? Mythics…
I feel like we need to add more types of gears to hunt, and play with. Sure that might add some power creep, but it is going to be fun and it will be worth it in my opinion.
Imagine seeing green beams again - Set items…
Or Red Beams - Primal Ancients, there could be D4 variant of these gears added
I’ve been staunchly against set items in D4; alas, I think you have a point here. Addressing new types, which may include sets, could be helpful. But as long as the roll ranges are vast and really bad affixes can drop on * gear it is usually never a dopamine hit until you KNOW the item is rock solid.
I could deal with the current drop rates as long as the roll ranges were shrunk.
Let me explain why I think it is going to positively benefit the game right now. Look, we don’t have a solid end game to keep players engaged for a long period of time . Farming torment bosses is the only thing and it gets stale pretty quick.
Farming pits don’t really count because it depends on the individual, once you are happy with your glyph level and don’t feel like pushing pit any longer, that activity is no longer keeping you engaged.
If we have more type of gears to hunt down, that does crazy things like sets or whatever, at least that will add to more play time and engagement.
And maybe with the newly acquired gears that can unlock a new activity in game to allow you to further juice up those new gears ?
A new, pinnacle activity is desperately needed. Nothing like what we have/had up to this point will cut it, either.
pinnacle activities requires pinnacle gears - only make sense.
I think by adding some like that in combination with a new tier of loot type would be pretty cool
You don´t need such amount of trash items at all.
it depends on how much one decide to enchant, MW etc yes you might need it. Also gold.
It is better to give player more than enough than not enough. There are many different kind of players out there playing this game.
In my opinion trash items = nothing. There are far better ways to farm gold and crafting materials.
The best way I see it in game is to sell the legendary and sell everything. The gold drop is not very good and it is much lower amount compare to what you can sell them for.
crafting materials drop pretty good out in the open world depends on which type. The Veiled crystals drop rate are decent, but legendary mats still come mostly from salvaging legendaries…
Yes.
I think the argument of “you need mats and gold” is kinda pointless 2-3 weeks into the season when people are swimming in the stuff.
Which D4 doesnt have. At least not for the mats and gold you get from salvaging and selling. The crap is thrown at you like candy, and as I said, by week 2 or 3 there is no need for any of it.
no! blizzard uses AI to determine what loot you get to increase engagement!!! eyeroll
We haven’t had a season yet where some form of consumable wasn’t needing a patch to address some form of shortage.
often enough it turns out that people dont disenchant stuff tho. they just sell stuff for gold, or spam 1 content and dont do anything else. Forgotton souls was a little scarce early in s6, was patched 5 days into the season? i think thats fair.
