I am leveling a sorc currently level 80. I have tried 3 different builds from chain lightning to lightning spear and now back to another chain lightning build that claims to be amazing for leveling. Its fine for normal mobs but less of with elites and bosses take 3+ mins to kill. I even have the chain lightning unique pants but whether its lash or with this build spark the damage is just tickling bosses.
What build is truly best for leveling this season??
firewall is best for leveling right now.
Firewall to lvl 50, fireball to 100 for me.
I’ve had an amazing time with both the chain lighting and fireball builds but they require a lot of gear to feel good. Once you get the right mythics and uniques to have infinite mana they are as smooth as butter to play. Can’t speak to leveling though, I only play on Eternal precisely because I can’t stand having to level from scratch again.
Fireball til you get lightning spear build. Easy.
Casual Scrub here. I played with fire/ice/lit exclusive sorcerers last season.
All ice stuff and vulnerable worked for me really well up to level cap. I am struggling with T3 hordes, level 23 pits tho lol.
fireball will get you through all the content(including T8 horde and ubers) while you save up gear to switch to lightning spear.
This is all tough to respond to because an adequate response could be a novel!
-First of all, don’t follow a build because they declare it “the best”. Just because they are saying the best, doesn’t mean that it is.
-If you want to follow a build you got online, you need to understand how it works. If the build does not explain all the things going on under the car hood—don’t follow that build.
-If you choose to follow a pre-made build you got online, that build should explain game play, they should explain the passives, etc. If they don’t yet you want to follow that build: you should open up your skill tree and read all the text about what you put points into. You should open up your Paragon and read all the nodes you invested into.
-You can just DO a build online but if you don’t invest time in understanding how it actually works, you are probably going about combat all wrong and not making sure you are proc-ing the right things and hitting the right synergies.
-If you’re going to follow a pre-supplied build, you need to watch it/breath it/live it/ know exactly what to do in order to make the most of every passive on your skill tree, every node on your paragon, etc.
Following an online build does NOT mean you get to just hope that mashing buttons is enough.
If you just need to level, the easiest way is to go to Helltides and do Blood Maiden.
If you think leveling a Sorc is difficult, try Necro or Druid lol. The formula is the same. Helltides.

Fireball is the way to go
Best part of firewall is you really don’t need any uniques. It definitely gets outpaced late game but it can get you pretty far pretty quick. “Downside” to it is you kind of have to play it like “set and forget” in NMDs or your clear speed will be bad. Just drop down a firewall and keep moving, basically relying on the “missed drop” functionality of the stash to catch anything good. I mean you don’t have to do it this way, you can do it slow, but it will be a lot slower.
It’s pretty great in early IH though. I did firewall/hydra and I found things like those aether masses would spawn already where I had a wall or hydra and they would die off screen.
Chain lightning is very easy leveling. Make sure you are following a guide if you are having problems.
