So I have a character of every class that’s made it to torment. I figured I’d do a quick overview of the classes and some of the serious problems I noted with them while playing for any players interested in trying different classes or for the devs to change certain classes. That being said these were my experiences mileage may vary depending on player.
Necromancer: This class is fun but is very lacking in the power fantasy in my opinion. Although you can do summons most builds with them aren’t very powerful and choose to forego them for the sacrifice bonus. Also most builds rely on the same two skills for damage corpse explosion and bone lance. Bone spirit can do well late game however I feel it takes a lot more set up to get effective usage.
Sorcerer: Second class I played and enjoyed this one pretty well. Fulfills the magic caster fantasy well with it’s skills and most of the aspects have interesting synergies. That being said a glaring weakness of sorc in my opinion is cc as it’s good at applying it but doesn’t have enough skills that break it without ruining a build because they don’t work together. Otherwise felt pretty decent to play not many major issues.
Barbarian: This class is sheerly just fun in my opinion and is probably one of the most potent classes in the game with a low level of accessibility for the good builds as many of the aspects can be received from the codex. It’s very much an in your face bruiser character and benefits you most when using it in this play style. It’s major drawback is that it’s mainly reliant on fortify for defense which isn’t bad but would love to see natural damage reduction from berserker even if it’s temporary. Very solid class overall.
Rogue: This class I’m iffy on. I enjoyed playing it until torment. The builds require a lot more placement to be effective and planning to take down larger packs when I first hit torment. Pretty solid overall however I feel this class is huge risk reward. If you want to brain dead smash and kill things don’t pick rogue necessarily because it won’t get that way until much later game.
Druid: This one is hard. I want to love druid I really do it’s a fun fantasy. A shapeshifting elemental warrior however this class has been the bane of my diablo existence thus far. First a lot of the really good aspects that are needed to progress quickly are random drops. Second most of the midgame builds require 5-6 druid specific aspects. This class I also believe has the most aspects Not trying to be rude to blizzard but it feels the least planned out in terms of building as it requires so much to get into a good place and if you’re unluck you may not even be able to play a build that fits your playstyle due to how rare it is for some aspects to drop. (Ex. have gotten dozens of trample slide aspects at level 66 and only two of the shockwave aspect for pummel one at level 31 and another a 63)
Final notes. A couple tidbits I figured I should add. First some AoE attacks don’t work very well with the map geometry. I’ve noted this specifically more frequently with trampleslide druid where the landslide pillars just won’t hit enemies standing in certain spots.
The game seems to weight gear towards specific builds when you roll a character not sure if true but once again gotten so much stuff for trample slide and almost none for pulverize. Same happened on rogue and barb rogue constantly getting twisting blades stuff and barb getting rend stuff. May need to test making multiples of the same class to see if it works differently on another pass but figure that can wait until season 1.
