Everytime I try to do something be it opening the menus, inventory, map, talking to NPCS, etc. (literally ANYTHING) the game freezes from anywhere between 30 second to several minutes. Somehow I still managed to tough it out and complete the MSQ but dear god the amount of time I wasted staring at a frozen screen and/or loading screen is just insane. Logging in and out takes forever as well.
My game is located in my SSD with my other games so I know that’s not the issue. I am running on Windows 11 with an AMD Radeon 6600XT graphics card and 32GB of RAM. I checked and my graphics card drivers are updated. Windows is up-to-date as well. I have already turned off cross play (or whatever it’s called) and have lowered all my graphical settings. I have never had to do this with any other ARPG before (I run POE2 just fine on good graphic settings, as an example). I’ve closed all other applications and the only ones that are left running are Discord, Battlenet Client, and the game. On the rare occasion that the game does decide to give me a break and not freak out, I can see that my FPS is steady at 60 and my latency averages at 80-100ms.
At this point I am lost on what else I can do. Has someone experienced this and/or have a solution? My friend tried to invite me to a dungeeon earlier and it took me about five minutes just to load into the dungeon. This is just insane. I am currently trying to redownload the game in hopes that it could magically fix it but I’d still love to get help in case this doesn’t work.
Same here. Start up screen states I can’t connect to the lobby but several attempots and I can. Once in game, anytime I try to port to a different location I get caught at the loading screen, then once it is done, I am still at the spot I tried to port from. Guessing it is a server issue.
EDIT: Have also been getting the invisible wall and now got disconnected. Trying to relog I get the request has timed out error. Almost impossible to play at this point.
Exactly the same here. Game is completely unplayable currently. Sometimes I’ll open the settings menu and get disconnected. LIke honestly blizzard… WITAF!?!
I finally got the game to run on what I can consider “playable”. I still have screen freezes every now and then but nowhere near as long as before. They’re only about 10 seconds on average now and pretty uncommon. I can now open up menus without fear of freezing and/or disconnection. The only times I observe the freezes are during area transitions and I either have high latency and/or if I alt tab while I transition areas.
Since the changes I’ve made below, I have now been able to get my graphics settings back up to the Quality preset and the game is running fine and, yes, I can do Cross Network Play as well.
With all that said, there were two things that I did and either one or both of them solved the issue:
I uninstalled the game completely and made sure the Diablo IV folder in my Program Files folder was gone and then reinstalled it.
I am now launching the game with this argument: -enableds. To do this, click the gear icon beside the play button in the battlenet client and select “Game Settings” then check the box that says “Additional command line arguments” and put that line there (with the minus sign in front)
It’s so weird and very unintuitive that all that the game was borderline unplayable just because I didn’t know I had to put in some random command line argument during startup. This is NOT something a normal player would be doing. Something has to be up with the optimization of this game and compatibility with graphics cards/processors/whatever.
ETA:
This is the worst Technical Support forum on any game ever. Why even have a technical support section if you’re not even going to try and help with your players issues?
That command line fix wiped out around 90% of my stuttering issues in the game! We have the same GPU, OP, so maybe this could be something specific with AMD hardware? Anyway, I wanted to drop in and personally thank you for the post and the fix. HUGE difference after trying that. Cheers.
Do you even have an NVME drive and D4 is on it for DirectStorage to do anything? Or is it Blizzard spaghetti code breaking the game regardless of you having DirectStorage support?
