(Game unplayale) USB devices constantly getting disconnected and reconnected in D4 only

This isn’t happening anywhere else, on other demanding games etc. But when I boot up D4, very soon after my usb devices all disconnect and reconnect a few moments later. I cannot play with this issue. I’ve seen other people report this issue dating back to the march beta. Is there no word on this?

sounds like a bug for sure, what specific usb devices are disconnecting?

can you run task manager or resource monitor while this is happening to see if anything is being over worked?

plz list some specs
windows 10/11
motherboard & cpu models
any windows updates needed?

edit: is there a bios update available for you from your mb manufacturer?

I have a corsair mouse, a hyper x mouse, a roccat keyboard that all get disconnected when playing.

Windows 11
Zotac 3080 Amp Holo
Ryzen 7 5800x
Asus b550M-plus Mobo

Windows is up to date

Hey ECO,

on a previous post you mentioned using a usb-switch… is this switch self powered or is it powering through the pc’s usb port? Not sure if you’re still connected this way.

a couple things to try that cannot hurt…

AMD Chipset Driver verification and update:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/cpu/amd-ryzen-processors/amd-ryzen-7-desktop-processors/amd-ryzen-7-5800x

Double check your bios version, on Asus’ website it shows the current version is 3002 dated 3/14/23 … i could not find an older version so i’m not sure if that’s the only one or they for some reason don’t allow you to download older versions for this board.
scroll down to your 5800x on this page:

chipset and bios updates might help if there’s some weird code in D4

if you do a bios update, Asus updates usually wipe your settings you’ve entered (d.o.c.p., other overclocks, enabling devices you may have disabled, defaulting fan curves if you’ve adjusted them … etc.)

i’m out of ideas other than those, hopefully one of these works

I appreciate it man. I did update the chipset, it still happened. I then decided to go into MSI afterburner and decrease the power limit to 95% and switched around my usb ports that things are plugged into…Suddenly no issues. Crossing my fingers that it stays this way! Appreciate you taking the time to help.

awesome, good to hear

also, doesn’t hurt to have the chipset and any bios updates done either, so win win for u

USB issue is 99% chance of being your processor. Assuming of course your BIOS are up to date. Hopefully you’re still in warranty and can RMA it. D4 is stressing your CPU in just the right way that it becomes unstable. Check your windows event viewer for errors, WHEA 18 or 19 would definitely be a big indicator CPU is not doing good. Slim but non-zero chance your motherboard could be the cause.

As to why decreasing your GPU power limit could stop the issue, it could be a few things. Power first and foremost. If your MOBO is maxed out in sending power then both running full blast could cause your CPU to not have enough power to stabilize(assuming auto voltages) it’s clocks. Temperature, again GPU running full blast causes more heat and more heat can make computer parts unstable. Lower GPU power limit will also decrease framerate, this means less the CPU has to feed the GPU and could be enough to stabilize it since it doesn’t have to work as hard. This is a bandaid fix.

Seriously if you can RMA your CPU do it. I know it sucks to do, AMD is pretty fast after you jump through the hoops, but it’s only going to get more and more unstable. Your CPU will use more and more voltage(up to a hard limit) to stabilize the CPU. The more voltage it uses the faster the CPU degrades and more heat it produces. Once it degrades enough that it can’t go passed the voltage limit to stabilize your USB issues will become more frequent and you’ll start to get random blackscreen restart/shutdowns. If you don’t play a lot of intensive games you might be able to get by until you finally get a new PC.

Don’t take my word for it, look up “AMD Ryzen USB cutting out”.
