Game Unplayable

Since the 2 most recent patches game has declined in play ability for me. Noticed after the first of the 2 most recent patches a marginal decrease in performance. This most recent patch it has advanced to unplayable. Large lag spikes to now unable to sign in. Game crashes prior to completing log in checks and sends me back to BNET loader. Also noted crackling noises in game sounds during the rare times I have been able to play.

Resolutions attempted thus far:

  • Drivers up to date in all forms.
  • Windows 10 updates applied and current
  • Scan and Repair process completed
  • Fresh install of game which is stored on SSD chosen for games I play frequently and OS only
  • DNS checks including: Flush, refresh and renew also attempted switching DNS to google servers without success (Things got worse actually).
  • The IT solution of turn everything off and turn it back on again. Including hard restart of PC to ensure fresh load of drivers.

To be clear I am looking for assistance. Please resist the urge to tell me how great it works for you, snarky comments etc.

Here’s the thing. Most folks were working fine before VOH, but with every patch it seems to be a roll of the dice regarding the game stability. A lot of us have tried different solutions, only to have the next patch help or hurt our situation.

At the end of the day Bliz knows there’s an issue with the game’s stability. (Why else have so many patches, and install more crash monitoring), though communication on the issue is severely lacking.

It’s a coding issue, and with so many different combinations on PC, it’s going to be a minute before the game is stable again.

Some folks don’t have issues, many do. The previous patch I was able to play for almost 3 hours, now I crash every 5 minutes. Before VOH I would rarely crash.

I think what you do in game also matters to some extent from my experience , I can guarantee a crash if I run helltides. I think a lot of us are starting to just walk away for now rather than live in the forums, at least until the game stabilizes. I’m still transitioning haha.

I was unaware so many PC users were having the same struggle. Thanks for the reassurance at least. I’ve played Beta till now without this issue so clearly it’s something new they added. Hopefully something changes.

Thank you for your earnest reply.

i guess they added spicy flavor of don’t play the game… i\ve spent 40$ and couldnt play a single hour. The game stutters, it’s bad.

Torment 6. Hellfire Unplayable! Difficulty unlocked

I am really hoping that the Patching coming this Tuesday, sorts things out, because this is ridiculous. So let us hope that on Tuesday it’s all fixed up.

And I’m not about to play, IT Guy, and end up blowing something up.

Amen to that. 2.0.3b looked promising to me after two weeks of crashing. Then 2.0.3c reset something and I went back to the old crashing behavior. I too am hoping tomorrow’s patch is the magic touch that fixes everything. I mean, subjectively, there are a lot more people posting about crashing since 2.0.3c dropped than in previous weeks, so hoping it’ll be addressed.

There are some conditions where this can cause an issue with the game. In most causes, its because of the auto-speed negotiation the card uses.

So.

What you can do if you are using a wired connection with this card and having issues:

  • Go to Device manager
  • Find the network card I219.
  • Open the driver panel (double click the device).
  • Go to Advanced.
  • Scroll down and look for Speed & Duplex.
  • Set this to use 1Gbps Full Duplex. (assuming your router/modem has 1GB ports)
  • Then click Ok.

This will lock the card to 1GB speed. (the card is capable of up to 2.5GB, but this can get wonky on some setups, and with some routers/switches/modems)

That may address it. This will not hurt your system or other tasks. You may need to restart Windows (choose restart, not shut down).

Let me know if it helps.

Anyone that has this model of network card in their system and they are using it with a wired connection may need to use this method to help lock the card from trying to “auto negotiate” a speed periodically. This happens especially with TP-Link hardware. And for some reason the Diablo IV traffic seems to actually cause this issue to show up more often.

This same tactic can also be applied to wireless cards. You can cap their auto-negotiation of speed to prevent or lock the wireless to a specific band/speed rather than letting it auto determine. When cards try to negotiate speeds, that process can interrupt traffic, even if briefly. Wireless tend to be more likely to have this problem than wired, but its something to at least look into.

Look for my posts, they may help under Baggins.

I actually did.

Not sure how you are connecting how Battlenet logs in with how Diablo IV logs in. In reading your assumption in the more recent post about it, it doesn’t make much sense.

You also keep using the word layering a lot with your descriptions. I’m not sure if that’s actually a thing that’s going on.
I do know with this particular game being world wide and essentially one realm, (compared to say D3 with its multiple separate realms), you can be anywhere in the world and connect to the game. But not everywhere in the world is that going to be equal in performance.

I think the problem is more likely tied to region, the particular server your game may be trying to connect with, time of day and other traffic along your connection, how many hops between you and the server, etc.

There is simply no way to know for sure. What I do know, is that not everyone has the issue. Everyone here posting about it and complaining, sure. But not everyone that is playing the game.

Honestly, if I didn’t bother with the forum at all, I would have no reason to post. I certainly don’t have any issues with my game connection or how it plays.

But I probably would have an issue if I were playing from a place where others have been known to have problems with their connection.

Here’s another error code Blizz: BE8ACDA3-12D1-4ED3-A13D-48747EDD2F0C
Game is broken.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will try it when I get the chance and shoot some feedback to you. This is more of what I was looking for.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain things clearly as well as rationale.

No problem. I have this same card with my motherboard. I had to set mine to 1GB speed for compatibility with my router. I was having issues with it just connecting well to the network. That fixed it.

I use a lot of TP-Link equipment here, my office router is an AX6000. Nice router, but this card hates it when set auto. Funny enough, that router can run at speeds up to 2.5GB on two ports, but there’s no point. My internet port isn’t that fast anyway and with Starlink (my fastest option here) speeds top out at 300MB+ Average though is 100-150MB. My office is wired for 10GB capability or higher though if I need it.

I run a larger multi-point network here, that includes wireless 1GB bridges to different buildings on the property each with their own router and a master router controlling all that ahead of my office. That is all then funneled into the Starlink which only sees one device.

And with all that going on, I still get good gaming results in Diablo IV. But I have a fall back DSL modem if Starlink gets twitchy, which it can sometimes.
