Game randomly crashing to desktop

I’m not sure what is causing this crash, but randomly it’s just exiting to desktop. No crash or error messages are being thrown by the process. This is installed on a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVME drive.

Graphics card is a Gigabyte RTX4090 GAMING OC3

Check event viewer to see what caused the crash

The windows event viewer is not logging any events for these crashes.

That’s extremely odd, usually all crashes are logged into event viewer. I wish I could help further.

Maybe run a hardware monitor make sure it’s not taking more RAM or VRAM than you have available.

I have a 4080 and it was eating over 16gb of vram so it caused me to crash

I’ve had a crash-to-desktop happen at least 4 times in the past 9 hours. I’ve also had several crashes where the bug/crash report pops up, and to make things even more fun, i’ve had full system (Win10) crashes (at least 6 or 7) over the past 9-12 hours.

Started playing right at launch last night, almost no issues over the first 10 hours of play, but today, it’s been a major pain.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I’ve validated that the game isn’t consuming more RAM or VRAM than what is available. I’ve read other threads of people crashing due to the game being installed on a fast NVME drive, so I’m wondering if this is potentially related to that.

Someone made a recommendation for renaming / deleting the “dstorage.dll” file within the game directory before launching the game and having success with that. I’m going to give that a try and will report back in a bit.

Hoping that this is a known issue and is actively being worked on.

I have the same m.2 drive as you. I wonder why I haven’t encountered it but encountered the vram issue lol.

Funny/ frustrating

Hopefully whatever it is gets sorted for you

I found a resolution to this problem, but I’m unsure why this ended up being the fix.

Setting, DisableChromaEffects to 1 within the LocalPrefs.txt file in Documents\Diablo IV addressed the issue for me.

I’ve been playing for a bit now and haven’t experienced a single crash.

I’ve tried that too, but uninstalling and reinstalling the game, nothing works

going to try this out. curious howd you go about figuring this out?

None of this worked for me. New patch also didnt change anything. Still getting random crashes.
