Game Periodically Crashes (Minidump Info)

Since VoH, the game is periodically exiting via crash. This time my Windows 11 BSOD.

WinDbg analysed the minidump (selective info showing only below): -

" Application Error 0xc0000005 (Access Violation) error is usually caused by your computer not being able to correctly process the files and settings required to run a particular program or installation. Despite the error showing when you try and use particular pieces of software, it has many different causes including faulty RAM problems, errors with the files of your PC and issues with the settings of your PC."

Possible bad RAM, SSD, or Virtual Memory setting.

If your system needs more physical RAM to properly run Diablo it will use your hard drive or SSD to simulate RAM. If insufficient space is allocated or you lack enough free space on your drive it could cause major problems with a program like Diablo.

If you invest in 64gb of RAM it will address both the possibility of bad RAM and reduce the need to use virtual memory in addition to giving you more RAM for future games. If your drive is starting to get filled upgrading to a bigger SSD will also help you with Diablo AND future games.

Same problem!

Where is the clown emote?

Starting with the basic checks: You’ve updated your video card drivers?

Just checking cause D4 could be using something available in a newer driver that’s not in an older one.

Two things you can try with nvlddmkm. Also to test and see if you can narrow the problem.

  1. Reinstall the driver. But not just reinstall it, completely remove the old one with something like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller look it up) and then shut down restart, then install new ones.

  2. Slightly underclock the GPU. You’ll likely not really notice a performance hit and even if you do at least it fixes the crashing. You can use something like afterburner or whatever program you like.

What brands? Not all brands are equal in quality control. You could try underclocking your CPU and RAM to see if maybe something in your system is not operating at specifications. Underclocking will also allow your system to run cooler. Is your system water cooled? i9’s run hot and cannot reach their full potential unless water cooled. You can check the voltage settings in your BIOS to see if your power supply is sending the right voltage. Sometimes giving your RAM a little extra voltage will help RAM that is not operating at specification.

I run an IT department but I started out as a system builder. We build all our workstations and servers in-house and of course I built my own gaming computer for the home. I’m not having any of the issues being reported here and if this was a software issue, and everyone is running the exact same version of the software, I would also be effected by the same hypothetical bugs (which I’m not).

I’m just going to stop you right there.
Go help those that needs help like you describe, while 99% of us others just wait for a patch that fixes the problem.

Good luck with the department, perhaps time is spend better elsewhere.

Yes confirming that latest drivers on NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.
