Game freezing for 10-60+ sec frequently

I’ve played D4 from the start and i’ve experienced some freezes and unexpected errors, but nothing like this since S2 launch… The game freezes for so long that i don’t know if i should close the task or whats going on… Tried lowering settings, but it didn’t help… I don’t know what you guys did in S2 in terms of optimization, but it made the game much much worse… It’s unplayable for me…

I’m having the same issue, didn’t have any issue like this in season 1 but now in season 2 I get screen freezes and game crashes all the time.

had same problem, need to install that 40 gb HD texture pack … once installed… uncheck it and install again… was in game before patch, was ok… after patch freezes.

Make sure you have Crossplay fully disabled, both options turned off.

There are problems with crossplay right now, and PC is affected the worst. I have had mine disabled since June, and to this date have not had any problems playing the game.

Ive never had any of them turned on, stop posting the same comment on every thread like its a 100% fix.

Well, currently its one of the most common issues that cause some of these problems.

So there is reason to suggest it.

Excuse me for trying to make sure that people have at least made sure that is one less cause.

I haven’t posted this on every single thread and not every response has been the same either.

I know there are more things going on that simply this suggestion, but its by far one of the easiest to check for and may help several out.

I get it that you might be perturbed that your game isn’t working properly, but that’s no reason to put down someone for helping out.

I saw yours has been getting disconnected, and its frustrating to be sure, but your problem is most likely not related to this one where the crossplay affects it.

Your issue more likely is a problem with the game’s path to the server, whether it be local in your network, your ISP or someplace between, and even potentially regional. Its highly unlikely (not impossible though) to be at the server end. Otherwise everyone would be having issues, including me.

Try running some network testing from my thread here:

Just saying.

Game on.

All I know is, the game was smooth af just a week ago. Now it’s a stuttery and freezing mess. Wonder what that could be?

I get it.

Mine was playing perfectly fine a week ago, now its actually playing even better, if that’s possible. Smoother, faster, I have even noticed a drop in the in-game latency response. 7-9ms instead 10+ms.

Weird. I wish I knew why some of you have such a hard time. For me, its the fun of troubleshooting the problem, but from my perspective its difficult. A lot of things are hard to troubleshoot when you are not sitting in front of the issue. There are many of you that I would love the chance to be there in person and figure out what’s going on. It would help to find some fixes for many others, especially those that have similar failures.

But that’s not possible in this context, so all I can do is make educated guesses. Sadly.

One thing I do notice, these stutter issues all revolve around UI elements. When they need to come on screen, from vendors menus to mission objective UI elements, etc.

Let me check something with mine.

Ok, just spent about 5 minutes rampaging through my in-game menus and such. Can’t duplicate any issues with it at all.

I even recorded it along with my in-game settings, will add that in here in a bit, its uploading now.

Could be system performance related, however as you said, it was working fine before the update. But you aren’t the first with this problem.

Has anyone tried renaming their LocalPrefs.txt file in the Documents\Diablo IV\ folder?

I played the beta and early access without any issues. Then when the game released a bug was introduced that broke the game. My game would crash every 30 seconds - 3 minutes which made progression basically impossible. I tried playing season 1 and the same issue was present. See [Main Thread] Game Crashes During Play - June 2023 - #166 by Shaodin-1875 I tried again after a number of weeks and the game was fixed. I was able to play without issues for hours at a time and progress at the end of the season. I was really excited for the season but it looks like whatever patch was applied in the later parts of Season 1 has now been reverted. I’m guessing maybe some crash fixes weren’t merged to the season 2 branch and now we have the same crashing issues that were present at the initial release/start of season 1. This is really frustrating since I could play without issues at the end of season one. Please fix!

I had the game running pretty much okay on my old GPU (on low-medium of coz), but then at the end of Season 1 I got a new one, 4070ti and the game started to freeze for 5-6 sec like every 20-30 mins. I’m still on low settings and I have latest drivers and ALL other modern games work fine. So Idk what to do…

Every 15 seconds I have a 5 second lag spike, and screen freezes, on PC. MS go to 1000+ . then i usually end up dead… My brother is in the same room on the same wifi on his PS5 and has no isses. I have no issues on any other games, and my wifi is stable. I did not have this issue before update. (i have tried to turn off crossplay and all other “fixes”

Same crap for me, been scouring the internet for answers, and so far nothing. Blizz better make some statement soon about this. I know it’s broken but I want to hear Blizz say: “Yeah we know it is we are working on it.” Not because I want an admission that it’s broken, but because I want to know there is a chance I can play this game without all the BS disconnects and freezes and rubber banding and lag, etc.

I am 100% sure they are actively losing players this season due to lag disconnects alone. Most of those people are not verbal about it either, they will just stop playing.
Hell, I will just stop playing not because I don’t like the season or content, but because I CAN’T play it.

The game is completely unplayable. The moment I enter the game, whether it’s the menu, character selection, or anything else, the game freezes and crashes whenever I press any key. This game is neither a free creation nor are you a small game studio. Thousands of people are paying for this, and you are offering a broken product to users without fixing it.

Ya, pretty much the same problem here. Season 1, no problem. Season 2, I’ve got stuttering, freezing, rubber banding…

Same for me. Either 5-7 sec freezes or it completely crashes the game.
Never had this since pre-season & beta.
