Well, you’re right. Incredibly frustrating. I wish I had an answer.
I will be assembling an AMD system either later tonight or tomorrow morning that has a 500GB NVME, 32GB of memory already in it, and I have a 2070 to toss in and then will stress it, going to force it to run at Ultra maxed out and see if I can get it to mess up.
Will report on how that goes. I can’t help if I can’t get my hands on it. I like troubleshooting, but its very difficult trying to do this from the forums.

Good luck, hope you get informative results
Just to clarify here.
The game calls this Nvidia Reflex. Is that what you are referring to? This is one of the suggested fixes that helps yes. Along with FPS caps, High settings, etc. Also disabling Peripheral Lighting, and exiting the bnet launcher while running D4.
I believe that is correct Nvidia Reflex.Thank you i forgot what it was called.
Sadly It seems after the issue has returned.Taking longer though to cause a problem, Has got me wondering if its a vram leak issue.
Yep i cap at 60.Medium textures.
Haven’t tried lightning or launcher, i will give those a go.
Have to keep in mind, all this is guessing. Some say it helps, then to later report that it didn’t, etc.
The whole issue is frustrating, and even more so that it doesn’t affect everyone.
I even built the AMD last night and ran the game at ultra settings on a 2070 till it maxed the VRAM and kept playing for nearly an hour.
Other than it struggling to deal with the setting, it ran consistently fine. So for me, I’m having a very difficult time reproducing the problem.
And I was even running on an Nvidia driver that was below minimum requirements. Now I need to incrementally update the driver and keep testing, see if that does anything. Install Experience, see if that does anything.
I actually have to try to “break” it. Ugh.

So Far including all the above settings tweak, i will post settings and pc build later, can track my other posts for dx diag if you want in the mean time.
So two strange things that so far, for at least an 1h no issues, triggered.
This is the strange one.I uninstalled diablo 2 resurrected.Becasue i remembered that one of the betas seemed to have installed under a folder of the same name and i did not uninstall. So i did that becasue i have multiple drives with games installed on what ever has room.
And installed the high res pack but did not up the graphics settings.
Idk i could not reproduce the issue, and even started a new character and nothing went wrong.
Going from a freeze crash on my first character the minute the game started, not bad progress.
Anyways doesn’t mean after i boot in again it won’t happen. But thats my progress update.
If I’m interpreting your post correctly:
-
You had no issues for an hour or so.
-
You uninstalled D2R.
-
Installed the high res pack, but left the game settings where they were.
-
You couldn’t reproduce the issue since then.
-
So you went from having a freeze on your first character, but now its fine?
Ok. Well good, hopefully it will continue to work for you.
More or less correct.
I booted in had terrible issues again, nothing i did helped set everything to low, got a game not responding issue just from teleporting to town.
Then in order i downloaded the high res pack.
Uninstalled D2R (since i remembered possible issue)
I know should have done it step at a time.
Booted game again
No resetting pc nothing, left all settings the same.
No issue for an hour and even made a new character only played until before the dungeon story but hit all the menu’s logged out logged back into main character, same thing teleported, spammed menu’s nothing bugged out.
Hopefully it stays at this playable level.Have to wait and see for now.
I’ve been having this problem since I first installed the game. Usually happens after I port into a town, clicking on merchants, leaving town into the wild. Others. Just standing in place and not moving around solves the issue. LOL. I can get the same effect from staring at a screenshot. It’s to the point now that I’m afraid to click on anything. I’ve reinstalled the game 3x, tried with High Res textures and without, Updated windows, uninstalled and reinstalled the latest AMD drivers twice, edited the ini file to disable chroma, lowered the resolution to 1440p, lowered all graphics settings to minimums, keep sound at std stereo not dolby or any other setting just in case its sound related, shut all unnecessary background processes, use default settings on AMD driver without changing anything, reinstalled DX package and C++ redist 2022, cleared ProgramData cache many times, I’m running 12GB RAM with 8GB VRAM on a 6600, so it’s not a hardware deficiency. I can’t play it for more than a few minutes without getting disconnected, freezing, and sometimes it even cold reboots my computer. This is ridiculous. Released an unplayable game. This game is not release ready. Silence from Blizzard. Maybe I missed it but I see zero posts from anyone at blizzard here. Too busy counting their money selling a game before it’s ready. Nice. And they don’t give refunds after 2h from purchase. No exceptions from what I’ve seen. O am so pissed off at blizzard. And disappointed that a once user first company has become so greedy. Micro transactions and sales pop ups at load. I am so disappointed with D4. So many people are having crashing, disconnections, freezing, and rebooting problems. Why is nothing bein done about this? HELLO? Any comment from Blizzard? Nope.
BTW this forum says I only have 1 or 2 posts whenever I post anything. That is incorrect.

Hey justjoe did you play the beta?
same thing still happens to me in hardcore, killed my 64 rogue…
started again now im 76 fighting against not only mobs but the actually game from not freezing…
have to open up any menu or portal out in a safe area & try to remember not to open up any of those menu’s when im fighting by accident as it will be the death of me…
happened to me agin last night in helltide luckily i wasnt fighting any mobs but… there was one pretty close and i swore that my character was 100% dead…
its one thing to die to a mob on your own accord, but its a totally different thing when the games rigged from the jump
hopefully i can make it to 100 without this bug killing me again.

FYI, not everyone is going to have the issue you had with the D4 beta being installed in the D2R folder. I’m glad yours is working better, but this is one of those one off things that most of the players aren’t going to have going on.
For everyone else, apparently they uninstalled D2R and it “fixed” their issues, which may or may not have been the same issues as everyone else.
Just another maybe fix in this sea of maybe fixes we all have been trying. But those of you that might have had this happen (D4 beta being installed into the D2R folder) can always try uninstalling D2R and removing the folder (they didn’t say they actually deleted the folder, just uninstalled the game) So…
No idea.

I know i was asking him so i could cross check the information he was sharing, if you get what i mean so if he didn’t play the beta for example, that highlights 100% other issues.
If he did and didn’t have d2r and could locate the beta folder or files that are installed or clear the folders and re-install the game.
To be clear not saying Dr2 itself is and issue i just know the beta incorrectly named the folder d2 resurrected when i installed beta week 1.
and that worked that would narrow down the theory of protentional, issue with file corruption from beta.
If none of that works then, more to the plot.
Was only why i was asking.
Still not 100 percent if any of this helped, but it’s working now for hours now first time since i start playing so, i did something,or blizzard did some online voo-doo idk tbh
uninstalling trash products is always a working solution.
Ive been playing bnet since the 90s and this crap has been present FOREVER, especially in D3 . the stutters, the weird spikes…yeah sure its always the consumers fault… gimme a break. Entire generations of CPUS & GPUS later i see the same issue LITERALLY 100% identical problem pattern.
It all started when they imposed their ALWAYS ONLINE crap on us, in D2R you could go offline and all of a sudden your game ran SILKY SMOOTH…
GO FIGURE.

These super long game freezes while opening menus or doing anything besides opening map+gameplay are happening to me only after this D4 update 6/27. Trying the high rest texture solution.
EDIT: I uninstalled D2R and it fixed the menu freezing and long load in times.

Okay, so add me to the list of ppl having problems. Had zero problems before patch 1.0.3 having some rather crippling freezes. Game has mostly recovered but it takes a minute…

Kudos for finding and posting the solution. Big thanks man, i noticed this happening on my system, but the delays / stutters are so minimal that i just brushed it off. My system is from 2020, so i wasn’t sure if it would run D4 on ultra but i know now that it will no issue, so i guess i need the assets anyways haha.
Installing the texture pack fix my game too but I made sure after it was installed NOT to touch any graphics settings. Just install it, enter the game asap and if its running perfect, DON’T touch a thing in graphics settings and you should be fine.
So one needs to be super paranoid in order to properly play this game? Nice

The game ran perfect for a week then I messed with the graphics settings and that’s what made my game run bad for weeks after that, this game needs to be fixed, nothing paranoid about it, it’s logical.
