sadly i have to say that im glad there is no real general chat. Its pretty obvious that many people just lost their ability to behave in online evironments. poe2 is a fun example there btw. That chat is… special more often than not.
Join a d4 discord community if its social interaction you are after. Having a solid clan also helps

Trade chat is used as global chat. So there’s no D4-specific argument for not enabling global chat. (You’d have to cite some real numbers & some awareness of how Trade chat is currently populated, to argue against this feature.)
Like most things, the real explanation is probably that they didn’t plan it, and it got lost in the very large & growing pile of expected pass-throughs & fixes. Chat UI in particular (but UI generally) has had very clunky & unintuitive design since closed beta, & hasn’t evolved much, if at all. That alone tells the story.
Also, it would be togglable.

I hear enough complaining on these forums, the last thing I need to hear are people complaining WHILE Playing the game in a General Chat.

The reason games stay alive is because of the social aspects. Diablo 4 has such a reduced social aspect, this game is destined for death. No, i dont just wanna talk to my guild. No, i dont just wanna have discord open constantly having to look down or minimize or play windowed in order to chat with the high possibility of getting removed/banned from the discord channel for various reasons.
I just wanna talk and bs and have a place to say stuff to randos playing the same game i am. It is a form of gamer camaraderie lost on those completely anti-social, do-gooder types.
Examples: World chat in WoW or General chat in HotS.

All right Mr. Mogo, what if I need to see/communicate with somebody in Chat or have a general question? Or maybe ask for help.
Of course you can turn it off, Maybe even “ignore”/“report” idiots. Is that an option? That should be an option.
