Yup, same here. Just literally finished downloading the update and now it won’t even start… nothing. Zero response. What’s up, Blizzard?

So all three of you are still running Windows 7???

Time to upgrade. And you may as well jump to 11, since 10 is due to be retired later this year.

windows 10 is supported officially until october next year and another 2 after that extended at least, probably more just like 7 got 2 extra and still getting extended security updates today

it’s time for nothing, you don’t decide when people downgrade to shtty new OSes made by crapple developers and their inexistant ability at making a quality GUI

get lost kid

Kid?

HA

Probably older than you, and a lot more respectful. You are just an angry ranting poster who’s opinion at this point is now ignored.

Have a nice day, enjoy your outdated OS and way of thinking.

Hello fellow Windows 7 users.

I have reason to believe that Windows 7 support (or, rather, support for DirectX 12 for Windows 7) was accidentally broken and not intentionally removed with patch 1.4.2. For those that do not know, it has been present since closed beta. The files that allow DX12 to run on W7 (d3d12on7.dll, dxilconv7.dll, D3D12Core.dll) are still present in D4’s directory (they were not removed with the patch). The developers also did not in any way mention Windows 7 in the patch notes or blog posts. Finally, if D4 was suddenly compiled using newer Windows APIs, it would throw a different error (missing DLL files, missing function in kernel32.dll), not simply crashing.
These facts make it a bug. Please open a ticket about it and hope that some competent CSR will acknowledge it and forward the report to the developers.

Regards,
K

EDIT(15.07.24):
Here are a couple of findings:

  1. Patches later, D4 still doesn’t work on Windows 7.
  2. PTR D4 (v1.5.x) doesn’t work on W7 either.
  3. VxKex ( GitHub - vxiiduu/VxKex: Windows 7 API Extensions ) doesn’t help, no matter the configuration.
  4. Differences in files between patches are in Diablo IV.exe (the main executable), NV DLSS and CASC storage files (Diablo IV\Data). None of the DLLS are changed.

Despite D4 still being shipped with DX12on7 files, they’re effectively useless on W7, as the game crashes before the files are even loaded (this I confirmed while doing some debugging). Given how the crash wasn’t fixed in a month, I don’t think anyone will ever bother to fix it. Maybe one day someone will remove the files from the game structure and patching manifests.

This is a first Blizzard game to have W7 support (while not being officially advertised or listed, was intentionally added) on release and later dropped without warning or official notice.

Agreed, but you shouldn’t mark this as solved if you want an actual Community Manager to look at this thread.

Thanks for piping in Konokrad. edit Ok, well ticket submitted so we’ll see what they say. I’m not optimistic given their complete lack of transparency and / or dearth of communication on this issue, or even any acknowledgement of said issue but we’ll see.

Anybody had any news about this? Game still won’t launch, even after the recent smaller patches. Seems that Scan and Repair just spins and doesn’t actually progress.

Nope, I have to switch over the my windows 10 partition to play :frowning:

I’ve got the same, my “Play” button is greyed out and won’t let me click it.
Also, how the heck did you put a ticket in??! I spent nearly an hour cycling through the blizzard site just to get stymied by the overly excessive links.

It works… it just takes a RIDICULOUSLY long time to finish. Like 2 straight days for me. Still didn’t work though.
