I will be playing for a bit then try to open inventory and the game will freeze for a while and then crash. This has happened three times this evening, and it hasn’t been an issue since the last update. I have tried lowering settings to see if that fixes this issue and sadly that has not solved the issue.

It happens ALL THE TIME to me. I’m on a somewhat older PC, but geez, if I’m doing ANYTHING like a legion fight, or recently teleported, or whatever and I try to access my inventory, the game freezes and I’m forced to use task manager to shut down the game.
I HATE CRASHING TRYING TO USE MY INVENTORY. I’M SICK OF IT.

I’m having the same problem, game freezes after hitting the hotkey for inventory at the same time the game is processing something like finishing an event, leveling up, dropping an item… Last time, it froze here when trying to open the inventory right after the message for completing an event poped up on the screen. Had to close the game and start again.
It seems this is happening on consoles aswell, not only PC

I saw your thread earlier, then elected to start a new one just to keep the heat on the devs. I am loving the game, but with so many game wrecking bugs, crashes and disconnects, I am, for the first time since it was introduced, actually considering a softcore character.
That thought both appalls and bores me in equal measure. Hardcore is, for me and many others, what gives the franchise its staying power. It’s why we continue to play. Few things create immersion like having a single life to live. Suddenly, it’s not just a gear hunt anymore, your decisions matter.
For now, I am debating whether I can even progress beyond the end of the campaign, playing an alt while I think about it.

Thanks a lot, we must keep the heat on the developers about these bugs. Does anyone else notice that the use of RAM occasionally increases or is it just me having only 8GB of RAM?

This, and trying to use any menu at all, is extremely common (more so than you would assume). It has been occurring since the first beta test and I am absolutely shocked that It remains an issue at all, as this is a professional and expensive product developed by a multi-billion dollar corporation that can more than afford a full team of quality assurance product testers.
It would be far more reassuring if Blizzard could at least be transparent about this and make a public announcement stating whether or not they are currently working towards solving this problem, because it is not a small and isolated one: this and all the hard-freezing issues are occurring on a large and global scale.
I have a suspicion that it is server related, because whenever I open a menu I go through the same, tired-old, motions but then I see “disconnected from server” and then “reconnected to server” accompanied by a blue spinning graphic.
Oh dude, these issues are so appalling and frustrating; every single time I experience a hard-freeze when opening a menu, like the abilities tab or even the in-game main menu, my character is frozen in time but the rest of the world is not. This basically means that a majority of my character deaths have been the fault of the game itself which is what has stayed my hand from investing seriously in a hardcore character.
I refuse to pool hundreds of hours into a character that will die to stupid sh*t that should not be occurring, at all, because this is absolutely unacceptable at even a base level of development cycle. How this has not been publicly addressed is beyond me, honestly. It is suspicious, as if they are fully aware of these blatant issues and are purposefully ignoring them (and, by extension, us).

Same issue here.
I have 32gb ram, 3070Ti, Intel i5-11400F, Windows 10, 1440p 144Hz.
When i have inventory open my GPU run at max until the game crash, also when im in the wardrobe.
I have tride lowering clockspeed at gpu, rasing fan speeds, lowering grafic settings, nothing helps.
same issue still, months later
This can also occur when activating chat/action wheel (not just inventory). I stopped using inventory if im not in a city (until 15min ago when i forgot and got my character killed).
BTW I am playing hardcore and this game is really, really trying my sanity with its crashes and disconnects. Diablo 3 was the same at start. Seriously draining the fun out of hardcore…

3 Times today, once when opening my Inventory, twice when opening my Paragon Board.

GTX 1070
16gb Ram,
Medium - High settings.
I dont know what else might be of use but this is ridiclious.
Happening to me especially at start of legion event or during helltide, pressing i or tab or E also cause visual and input lock ups… not ideal for hardcore…
Yep, happening to me as well now 3700x / 2070S (drivers on 545.92) / Win 10.
Locked up my PC about 3 times in a couple of hours - having to kill off the app with task manager
Not just limited to locking up in my inventory now, died twice as my PC locked up while in combat in the open world - luckily I’m not on hardcore
This only happens when I open my inventory while waiting for Ashava.
This problem makes me so angry. In my case, this was not always the problem, but now, i experience exactly what is described in this thread; game freezes when opening inventory, blue spinny circle… It freezes in many other situations too. Helltide is impossible AND the only way to get living steele… I can’t even imagine how must frustration this must cause in the HC community

I have missed out on COUNTLESS world bosses and COUNTLES of aberrant cinders because the game randomly (only sometimes) freezes and crashes when I open inventory.
Up to the point that i have given up on this crap.
GAME IS BROKEN? freezing and crashing multiple times each day. seems to happen esp. when opening inventory. resolving by restarting game causes active potion to end. WTF! tried to open a chest in helltide with 3 min left, game crash, yay… can’t get back in before helltide is over, lose everything. booooo. lol can i get my money back?, i can’t get my time back… how many years of D3 did we wait for this game? hmmm
