I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one having issues with Diablo IV only so here are 4 issues that keep happening to me because of the game.
Note: These are not hardware problems, the PC has been tested and re-tested, Cyberpunk 2077 runs smoothly at ultra settings with RT Overdrive on, which is heavy on the GPU, FFXIV can run for days in a crowded area (heavy load on two CPU cores), WoW runs amazing in raid at high settings without any crash either, benchmarks do not crash the PC, and MemTest is OK.
PC specs:
CPU: i9 13900KF (non-OC)
GPU: RTX 4090 (tested OC and non-OC, same results)
RAM: 64GB of 4800MHz RAM (non-OC)
Power Supply: 1100W Platinum
- Textures are set to High and NOT Ultra
- GPU never goes over 55°C, CPU doesn’t reach 60°C either.
- Drivers are up to date.
- DLSS and frame generation are off because it makes the game not smooth at all
- No HDR
-
Game crashes
Happened pretty randomly, one time I was in town opening the character sheet, the other I was in Nightmare dungeon minding my own business. -
PC crashes
Happened once but was pretty brutal, no blue screen, no mini dump left, just a loud noise in the headset (pretty common when PC freezes), the game freezing and the fans of my GPU going insane before the PC shut down. Happened when I opened my character sheet in town. -
Desktop flickering when alt-tabbed
I’m pretty sure this one is tied to a bad adaptive sync or G-sync Diablo IV configuration, there are actually steps to reproduce this one:
- Set your background max FPS below your refresh rate
- Alt tab and drag any window on top of Diablo on your main screen
- (Optional bonus points!) Have a hardware accelerated app on the second monitor (Discord, Chrome, …)
- Enjoy the flicker/flashing show (the whole screen kinda glimmers)
If you set your background FPS cap at the same value as your foreground (165Hz in my case) the issue “doesn’t exist” anymore.
-
Screen shutting down when closing the game
This one also can be reproduced easily:
- Start the game
- Play for some minutes
- Close the game
- Screen randomly shuts down because of a refresh rate change
I hope my post will soothe the mind of the other people who encounter the same issues and think their hardware is faulty, in the meantime I’m waiting for fixes from Nvidia and Blizzard because this is not OK at all.
