In the side quest Fury Against Fate, a latter mission in the chain, we join NPC Ealdea in the Wasting Hollow, an instanced cave, in a final stand against cannibals. After her rousing speech, we are tasked with clearing the cave.
However, neither she nor her her fellow tribesmem join the fight, nor does the quest progress after I’ve cleared the cave.
I’ve tried to restart the game, restart my Xbox series x, nothing obvious works. I am still in new game and this, so far, has been the only bugged quest I’ve encountered, with a renown in the dry steppes of 1720.

yeah, you click on her to start the quest, she gives a speech and then they just stand there and do nothing, I beat everything in there but still the quest didn’t complete. I tried leaving and coming back, 4 times, and still nothing.
Xbox Series X- Also have this problem. After the speech, they just stand there I’ve restarted the game, stood there for a while after clearing, and even lured her and her men to the big area at the end of the cave to help fight the enemies.
I am currently having the same issue on my xbox one x. Started conversation with npc and nothing happens, I go and destroy the wall and kill the few mobs in the room and not any other things happen
Still an issue, It does not progress I’ve tried on 3 different characters now.
This is apparently a known issue with the wall apparently. There’s a workaround that might work, might not work. Basically hugging the wall from entering the cave. If the wall has a health bar still after you talked to her you need to try to log off and in and try again. Personally would rather wait for a patch
I have been able to work around the Diablo 4 “Fury Against Fate” side quest bug by doing the following steps. This workaround is based on multiple different (and sometimes contradictory) suggestions on the forums. Please note that it might take you several tries to get this workaround to succeed.
I predict that Blizzard will fix this bug, so the workaround should hopefully not be needed soon. Crossing fingers.
Note: One of the suggested workarounds involved abandoning the quest and then re-getting the quest from the original quest giver. I believe doing so will give the same chances of success as my workaround below, but it involves some back-and-forth running around the map which I did not want to do. I was able to work around the quest bug without needing to re-get the quest, and so it was quicker to iterate multiple attempts at the workaround. Details below.
Bug details:
- You enter the dungeon area for the “Fury Against Fate” side quest.
- You trigger a conversation with the NPC (the female tribe leader) and she gives a motivational speech to the other members of her tribe gathered there.
- After the speech is over, they are all supposed to charge down the tunnel and destroy the barrier themselves. Then there will be multiple waves of enemies appearing, with the tribe leader giving additional motivational speeches before each wave.
- Instead, at the end of her first speech, they all just stand there. That’s the bug.
- You can go down and destroy the barrier yourself, and kill the enemies, but the quest will not progress even if you do that. Some people have reported trying to kite the enemies back up the tunnel and/or draw the NPCs back down to the action area. Doing that makes the NPCs fight a little bit, but still doesn’t cause the quest to progress.
- How to tell if the bug will occur:
- Do the first conversation with the female tribe leader after entering the dungeon. While she is giving the motivational speech, run down to the barrier.
- Bug occurred: If the barrier has a health bar already (if you can damage it before she finishes her motivational speech), then the bug has occurred and you must perform the workaround.
- Bug did not occur: If the barrier does not have a health bar yet, the bug has not occurred and you can simply wait there for her to finish her speech, and then her tribe will come running down to the barrier. They will help you destroy the barrier and the quest will progress normally.
If the bug occurs, you can try the following workaround. This is what worked for me.
Workaround:
- With the bug occurring, open the map, select the dungeon entrance icon on the map, and choose “Leave” or whatever the text prompt is that lets you leave the dungeon. You will teleport to just outside the dungeon entrance.
- Open the map again and fast travel to Kyovashad. Feel free to manage your inventory there if needed, then take your Return Portal back to the dungeon entrance. This step may not be needed, but, when I did this, it seemed to help to ensure that the quest got reset. Not sure.
- Standing outside the dungeon entrance, shut down the game. Do not choose “Leave game” from the menu; I mean, go back to the operating system desktop and close the application. I was doing this on Playstation 5, so that’s done buy holding down the PS button, pressing the “Options” button on Diablo 4, and choosing “Close game”.
- Wait a short time at the desktop. I waited less than a minute. I do not know if this is needed, but, when I did this, it seemed to help ensure that the quest got reset. Not sure.
- Launch the game and log in again. You should still be standing just outside the dungeon.
- Look at your minimap. The area immediately to your south might have an orange circle, indicating that there is a World Event nearby. If so, go down and complete the world event before entering the dungeon. I do not know if this is needed, but, most of the suggestions said that this event was intertwined with the quest bug, and most people suggested that this event needed to be completed in order for the quest to work. I’m not sure, but I completed the world event anyway, if it was there.
- Enter the dungeon.
- There should be a blue “side quest” mission marker icon above the head of the female NPC tribe leader. This icon indicates that the quest has been successfully reset and you may now try the quest again.
- If there is NO mission marker above the head of the female NPC tribe leader, then the mission was not reset and you must repeat the workaround once more. (I also noticed that, if I had kited the NPCs down the tunnel, they were still in the same positions as when I left them. I’m not sure, but I think this means that when I logged back in, I got the same host server as before, and so my game state was unchanged.)
- If there IS a mission marker above the head of the female NPC tribe leader, the mission has been reset. Interact with her to get her to begin her motivational speech again. Run down to the barrier and look for a health bar on the barrier, while she is still giving her speech. Health bar: Bug recurred. No health bar: Bug did not occur.
- If the bug recurred, or if the mission wasn’t reset, then repeat the workaround.
- It took me several tries, but eventually the mission progressed and I completed it.
Good luck! If this helped you, please share/link this post to other people who encounter the same issue.

Chipping in here as well: I’ve also been experiencing this bug ever since, with no suggested workaround working.
Reporting that I am experiencing the same bug. I have tried several workaround without any luck. I would rather see resources towards fixing this rather thank nerfing builds.
I tried this quest a lot now with all possible ways with relogging and stuff. But its just bugged and need to be fixed, Please fis this!
Yep, 26 days later, and still no official fix for this, or even any sort of acknowledgement from Blizzard that this bug exists, or that they’re working on it.
I appreciate all of the various people providing workarounds. A few attempts in of various workarounds worked for my Necromancer. I’ve now attempted 20+ times on my Rogue, with still no luck. It may not be game-breaking, but it is highly frustrating. Hopefully Blizzard will fix this soon. Then again, it’s been reported as a bug for nearly a month with no fix, so…

7/12/23 - Had this bug, So I abandoned, went to W1, picked up the quest again, started it, and it bugged again, did the “leave dungeon” instead of walking out, and then outside of the dungeon I TPed to Kyovashad, did an event just outside of Kyovashad, took a waypoint back, entered the dungeon, and the wall had NO HP Bar pre conversation, and the conversation finished and they broke the wall and the quest finished!
lest bump this and put all the fury against fate topics on top !!!
Challenge acepted!!!
