Still bugged as of today and now you can’t even attack the gate.
Just happened to me too.
I Tried the workaround suggested in reddit (cant seem to post links here google it) suggested but that damned world event keeps happening all the time which is preventing this workaround!!
so the quest is pretty much stuck

Same here. NPCs still stand around like dopes but now the barrier is virtually indestructible. They made the broken quest even more broken.
Instead of complaining that it does not work, try one of the workarounds listed above.
Easiest way to get this quest to work is to go straight down as far as you can to the bottom of the zone as soon as you walk in. Then when you climb down go as far down and to the right as you can before talking to the NPC. For some reason being too close to the barrier spawns a health bar too early on it and the NPCs will no longer attack it.
You basically have to stay as far away from the blockade as possible the moment you walk out of the portal until the NPCs engage it themselves. No amount of resetting the dungeon will work if you trigger this health bar glitch by being too close to the blockade.

Use VPN (I set it to a country opposite side of the world to greatly increase latency). The barbarians correctly attacked the gate.

I’ve tried several of the “work arounds” and nothing seems to work. Not only am I unable to complete this quest… but it seems like this bug has crapped out my ability to get renown in the Dry Steppes. I am stuck at 515 out of 600 renown for this region (All of my other regions are done). I’ve completed other dungeons and side quests… Even got the aspects from caves, but it’s not showing that I’ve completed them. This is stopping me from picking up my 4 paragon points from Dry Steppes… Blizzard, you need a hard patch on this quest. Not cool.
Did you try the one where you introduce lag into your game, or this one?
I did. Didn’t work. Honestly though, players shouldn’t have to go to such extremes to get this resolved. Blizzard should fix this through a patch. If they can release an entire Battle Pass/Season 1 on July 20th… they should be able to patch one quest, especially when it seems to be affecting so many people and ruining their experience.
I spent hours trying to get this quest to work. I abandoned it more times than I can count, riding my horse back and forth to start it again… I walked to the bottom of the screen several times inside of the cave… cleared the event outside the cave several times… I tried introducing lag… I logged in and out of the game 10 plus times to try to retrigger it…
I even threw hydra after hydra at the gate… which for some weird reason, would get the npc’s to run towards it. The main npc even swung her ax at the gate after my hydras hit it… but her swings and my hudras did nothing. Gate stood strong and I’m still out of my renown (and several hours of game time that I devoted to this).

But it is better than waiting several weeks for them to fix it, if it works.
Well, nothing seems to be working for me… so I guess I’m waiting for several weeks, which blows because I was hoping to stack the extra paragon points onto my sorc.

Have to say it’s extremely worrisome for the future of this game that such a minor but gamebreaking bug is still in the game after so long.
Logged in and out outside cave since it worked on another char. HC character “died” cause of it. 100% not a legit death as it was dead 0,1 sec after logging out so even if a canibal made its way to me there is just no way it would have killed me as i was in Tier 1. Assuming it trigged some abuse prevention.
Just wanted to pop in for a warning for HC fellas out there. For me, it’s time for a new character

I’ve tried ALL solutions I thought but actually, this one worked first try…How people come up with this I have no idea!

make sure your game is in windowed or borderless window

set the minimum background fps to 1fps
-
relog outside of the cave
-
click on the cave entry and tab out, and wait until everything has fully loaded at 1fps
-
start the conversation and tab out again
-
wait until they start shouting, then you’re safe to continue normally with the quest

This quest is still BUGGED.
How come it is not fixed???
I found a solution on Reddit to increase ping before entering the cave. Speedtest worked perfectly for this purpose.
Devs! Fix your game already.
