Full Screen Exclusive

How do I change my game to DirectX11 so I can use full screen exclusive so I may play at 4k and when I leave the game my computer resolution will be at 1080p?

You can’t. The game only operates in DX12 mode. There is no EFS mode for Diablo 4.

Hate to say it, but it looks like they won’t be bringing back this useful feature so we can adjust resolutions in game without mucking up our windows resolution in the damn process.

They are so concerned about that load in screen and other crap that they can’t seem to find a way to add back in this feature.

In my 30 some odd plus years of gaming, i have never seen a dev team remove such a useful feature that soo many used till i saw this.
It’s utterly crazy.

I have a feeling that this isn’t and won’t be the only game to have this issue.

Such is the way of progress. You gain in one area and lose in two others. Har har.

/sarcasm

It’s been removed in World of Warcraft for three expansions now (starting with Battle for Azeroth, then in Shadowlands, then in Dragonflight). It isn’t an option in DX12 games. Kludgy hacks can be done, but it isn’t a fully native DX12 mode. Yes it sucks but D4 seems to handle it well.

Even if they went to dx12 and it’s not supported, it doesn’t explain away why we had it for almost two entire betas and why they couldn’t come up with some other type of setup that reached the same results.

They need to find a way for people to be able to adjust their in game resolution that does not require messing up their windows resolution in the process.

I shouldn’t have to ruin my windows setup just to remove black widescreen bars and to be able to change the ui scaling of your buttons and the like.

If there is a way to do that without the missing feature then i am all ears.
But i am not in the mood for screwing up all my windows settings to achieve the results of a feature they themselves removed and never replaced.

Keep in mind, this game came out after their dragon expansion and had it as i mentioned for at least one beta and about half way through another and no telling if it was there for the earlier betas.

What you had during the betas was essentially a “hacky” method of imitating EFS. That’s why it caused so many crashes when ALT-TABing out. DX12 has no truly native EFS mode, and since D4 has no DX11 fallback mode, there isn’t even the option to implement the real deal. The only modern graphics mode that still has EFS on any platform is Vulkan, which this game does not support.

Well that’s a shame then.
And was it really too much to ask for them to leave it in and just put a warning about alt-tabbing?

I don’t alt-tab out of my games unless it’s for some really rare occasion, maybe once in a year tbh.
If it isn’t hurting the servers, then imo, they should let people have it back and just like i said add a red warning the game ‘may’ crash while alt-tabbing and let people choose for themselves.

From my perspective it wasn’t a game breaking feature that had to be removed, just add the above mentioned warning to it and voila done.

It would be nice if the devs actually took the time to respond and gave their input on the issue and what if any their plans are for a possible return and or things they might implement as a suitable replacement.

I am not trying to be unreasonable, i just believe they can do something about it in some form or another.

It’s not much to ask for, to add support for both DirectX 11 & DirectX 12 and allow the user to pick is it?
