🚨 Frustration Warning: Tempering System

Everything sounded amazing, really happy everything will be on Eternal also, but I am worried about Tempering System the way it was described.

Manual:
Small RNG - Drop the manual, by what I got it just need to be dropped once.

Base:
Huge RNG - Get a legendary with Great Affixes to match your intended build on the right piece of gear.

Tempering:
1 to 4 RNG - You can not “choose” which affix will you apply.
1 to 5 RNG - You never know if you will get the desired affix “maxxed” on applying (considering the nightmare that is enchanting to try get a max roll I am scared)

Problems:
You can apply 2 Temper Affixes…
You just have 5 tries to distribute between your 2 Temper Affixes tries.

The system would be amazing, but I already can see people “burning” excelent drops by not getting the max affix levels or worst, not even getting the affixes we want and needing to go after another huge RNG until get a good base again.

“So, please or remove the try limits or at least let us to choose which affix we will apply and try to roll.”

I say get rid of the entire system altogether. We don’t need RNG on top of RNG just for a chance at RNG which is base on RNG by entering more RNG. I don’t care about the Tempered Limit. Tempered Affix should roll on gear at drop. Not something players should gamble for.

They need some things like this to ensure players keep hunting items and try to get that perfect item. It could be frustrating sometimes but overall the system looks robust and fun.

Actually I find this aspect the most exciting part of everything they announced. We will se how it goes but RNG belongs in arpgs after all they pretty much stripped out everything else.

Respectfully disagree…
Never felt good on fail a craft on Lineage2 neither break an item on Mu Chaos Goblin.

At least leaving us with the rare base with not maxed affixes will cause a lot less frustration than get junk after too much effort.

RNG does belong in arpg. It should be determine when the item drop. Not after the item drop. Nor should it be gamble by the player for better drop.

WE will have to see how many items completely brick to make more judgements here but I still think the benefits far outweigh the cons.

But this is the meta loop and why it works so well. If you don’t get what you want, you go out and try to farm items again so you can try it. There’s also trade now so you can get items that way as well. A reason to go farm now.

And every time you go farm, it will be fruitful in some capacity.

I disagree the additive actually works well. Tho you cant brick an item so there is a safety net for the super casual playerbase.

Guys, please think a bit…
Getting a “trifecta” on D3 is not easy.
Add to this 3 other RNG layers (Great Affix, Temper 1 and 2), but consider the worst scenario: Not getting the desired affix not even on minimal.

Not to say that since Legendaries will be tradeable imagine the RMT impact…

So you’re upset you have to grind for loot in a loot grinding game. Got it.

I do think it would benefit them to create their own merchant guild mechanic like last epoch. Perhaps they are going to do that and just need more time. That way RMT won’t be able to just hop on brand new alts and trade godly items.

Either way, since gold is so potent in the power it grants, right now, RMT is already full-blown in D4. A merchants guild type mechanic would hinder it greatly post season 4. Gold won’t grant so much power anymore either.

This is the biggest negative to the chat. The RMT paradise that just got made is massive but the alternative could have been worse and that was trading drying up because rares are sorta useless. I am not a big fan of trade but the community overall seems to like it.

RMT can sell everything in the game now. They can sell rares (doesnt matter anymore), legends, uniques, and boss runs. Everything except flat out selling ubers.

IF they somehow announced some way to fight RMT then this chat would have 100% been a complete grand slam. But RMT has been a scourge for 25 years now. Nobody knows how to stop them.

Items only have 3 base affixes now so it will be much easier to get BiS legendary items to temper with which should offset this a bit

Temper isn’t “burning” anything, it’s about adding a new affix

It’s like a dynamic Socket with 5 attempts to gamble… Now yes, in theory and in practice one can get really bad rolls 5 times in a row but it’s much better than what used to be…

I just farmed my Ubers once dude…
The system is just stacking RNG layers by nothing (at least if the goal is allowing us to customize our builds), some RNG and risk is nice I am just against “stacked/inflated difficulty” ones.

Curious also about how someone would achieve something with so much randomness in just 3 months seasons timelines.

By burn I mean get your rare bases and get the wrong affixes on them, or just one that benefits your build and the other as a “dead slot”.

Since you get to pick from a subset of affixes ie: Mobility, at worst you may not get the exact mobility affix you wanted but it will still be a mobility affix. This is better than currently you reroll from a large pool and spend a fortune trying to get something you like and you can only enchant the one affix.

Well no. It’s cool for the casual but people like me with terrible luck will just have to content with the worse setup because we can’t gamble for anything better.

Is run speed capped in this game? I forgot. I assume it is since the current iteration of the game is very cap & gatekeep happy. Does anyone know if that’s sticking around?

How is that a problem though. Seems like the best part of this system by far.

That is, and should be, the entire point.

While I am no fan of this system, as I think items should simply drop with these 5 affixes to begin with, instead of having to add them afterward, the above limitations are the only saving graves of the system.

It was such a big mistake to make endless affix rerolls possible in the current version of the game. Destroying the need for new base items.

Agreed.

While I agree in principle, Blizzard unfortunately decided to move the item drops from killing monsters to clicking on an NPC in town, so that basic RNG has to follow the items to the new place where they drop; at the blacksmith.
