Fighting in the dark, in the fog, in the volume of an aquarium and this boss can swing his weapon so wide that dodging the attacks is almost impossible. That and they gave it projectiles that slow you. Who on the dev team thought this fight was a good idea?
He’s a tough fight for sure. I’ve almost beat him a few times now, but the rubberbanding I’m experiencing is making it impossible to win. I keep slipping back into his axe.
I’ve got him down to the black bar a few times, but that tiny arena gets filled with too much and there is no space to move. I just run out of room and potions to push through execute.
finally beat him. 15th time’s the charm. I’m sorc and I basically kite him while hydra does the heavy lifting. I got caught a lot in his storms and frozen in place. Lag was my main enemy.
Barbarian here. Melee is hard
I can see that. That’s a nasty fight for in close work.
If this is the boss in the stronghold that I think you’re talking about–yeah it’s a tough one as a Barb.
What worked for me is learning it’s patterns and using Iron Skin to heal yourself. When it gets close enough to strike you, run towards it and “evade”, it’ll swing and miss. Run to the other side and wait for it to come again and rinse and repeat. Use “Call of the Ancient’s” ultimate skill as it’s essentially an overpowered ranged attack. You can usually slip in a single swing or two when you’re evading (for one of his jumping attack–there’s one telegraphed attack where he’ll immediately turn and swing at you though if you’re behind him, so avoid it then), so if you can bleed him out that helps too. But I only got through that battle using evade charges, Iron Skin (with healing) and my ultimate skill. When the ultimate is used, you can usually pop Iron Skin and go in for a full scale assault as well to use up some potions. But usually every ultimate for me chipped away 20-25% of it’s health.
The fact it was so unbelievably hard is what made it fun for me and I hope they don’t change it. It’s been maybe 25 years where I’ve been swearing loud enough at a video game I could be heard in another room (particularly one time I got it down to maybe 2%). At this point, with the gear I have (56% attack speed on a legendary two-handed sword) I could probably tank him straight on. But when I first completed the town (even at 25), it was tough and I think I failed 10-15 times. The other one I had to evaluate my strategy and think about my approach was the Den Mother.
Part of what makes it hard is the fog and not always knowing where the ice is, making evading hard at times.
Slotted an aspect on my helmet that gave me a barrier every 30 seconds. Time that with my war cry and Berseker ultimate and pulverized him while I was invulnerable. It was almost criminal the amount of punishment I was able to burst out. Took him out on my second ultimate cast.
It was all a matter of figuring out how all the pieces fit to give myself a burst window. I wish we could record and share clips from beta or even stream because I’ve found a pretty sick build.
