Frequent lag spikes (1-5 FPS) multiple times every minute

My frame rate drops between 1-5 FPS for a few seconds, multiple times every minute. I’m running on low graphics with an RTX 3070 and a Ryzen 5950X. My computer has 32 GB of RAM.

I installed Diablo 4 on my NVME SSD, so it shouldn’t be the storage either.

I am having excessive stuttering and low framerates with an RTX 3080 Ti. I followed the steps in the support, and nothing is fixing the issue. I played in both open betas and never experienced a single problem.

Having the same issue - tried now for 5 hours to solve it - internet provider - driver updates- new D4 install - Nvidia optimization of numbers by hand - nothing helped !!
My FPS drops to 1, 5, 7 ,9 , 30, etc, etc, multiple times per minute ------- EVEN IN MAIN MENU CHAR MODE ----------- !!! Something is wrong with the game and I have no idea what after 5 hours of testing. AMD 5090 with Geforce 3090 here by the way . FIX YOUR GAME BLIZZARD or give me my money back !

I had this issue but it wasn’t every few minutes. For me it seemed to happen after 30 or so minutes maybe an hour.

The strange part is I would change my graphics settings by lowering or raising it and disabling/re-enabling v-sync/ swapping back settings to original settings and it would fix it.

I don’t know if its a driver bug or a game bug but stuff gets wonky if I don’t I much prefer a solid 60 or without v sync 150 than the 7-28 I get randomly.

Once I figured out that trick at least it made it playable for longer periods.

This actually helped me, too. After a longer period of playing it no longer works unfortunately. Only thing that helps is restarting the game. So it is quite possibly an ingame issue. 3070 TI btw

Okay so same 3070ti here as well.

I also experienced random slowdowns through out the whole campaign, every 30mins~1hr or so. Once it starts, it seems to keep happening until I change a game setting. Would even lag in menus once it starts. Seemed to happen most commonly in towns and during elite/boss fights, but could happen anywhere. Seemed like opening UI screens could also affect it. Hard to tell tho because it seemed random otherwise…

Ultra settings with Ultra texture pack. Again, game could run for hours completely stable, and then just getting huge slowdowns (10~20fps) out of nowhere until I change settings back and forth

Also worth chiming in with what I’ve been able to deduce.

The stuttering lag spikes are most frequent when changing area, transitions into a city is always worse, leaving dungeons is also pretty bad. I’ve not checked server latency which I’m going to check tonight (This can be turned on by pressing CTRL + R) to see if these lag spikes have a correlation to latency with the server.

Something else I just thought of, these lag spikes never occurred during the Beta and Server Slam, however the game did crash on me multiple times back then, something that is not happening now fortunately.

As for game settings, everything is Ultra, 4K, Nvidia Reflex off, FPS cap set to 90 FPS.

RTX 3080 10GB
32GB RAM

I am having the same issue with 3060ti, r7 5800x, samsung 970 evo 2tb m2 ssd and 32 gigs of ram. It is pretty annoying to be honest.

Also having the same issue here. 3700x, 6700XT with 12 GB VRAM, 32 GB system RAM, and game installed on SSD. Running on 4k monitor with high quality textures. Game mostly runs smoothly, but will occasionally freeze for multiple seconds, especially on entering a new area on the world map or opening the character inventory, but sometimes also randomly while playing. It’s rather annoying, and quite scary when it happens in the middle of a big elite pack.

I’ve been able to reduce the lag significantly by turning off crossplay as well as deleting the Diablo IV folder from my Documents directory and then doing repair install in the Blizzard client. Currently able to play at 144fps full ultra at 1440p with DLAA enabled, only lag I encounter is occasional brief stutters in very busy areas like during Legion world events. Had horrible lag for the last week previous that finally resolved after the 1.03a patch and following hotfix a day or two ago. Inventory lag is still present to a degree which is annoying as is some stuttering when entering new areas but it’s not as bad as it was previously and the game is no longer crashing every 5-15 minutes.

I also have the same issue with you, every hour need to restart the game.
