The real fix would be for Blizzard to not detect device changes and auto update the audio devices list, instead adding a refresh button next to the list that people can use to manually refresh it. That way it’ll only do the lag when someone is in the menu and doesn’t care.
Still waiting to start EA without constant stuttering, no matter what settings are on! Zero acknowledgement until what… next week?
To add looking back at old forum posts, this goes back to marchs test and people had the exqct same issue, videos on youtube and all. Never got fixes or noticed by blizzard
Ticket was finally answered from day 1 stutter. They suggested the exact same steps others have been trying since the last testing phase to fix the stuttering, clearly have no idea what’s going on or how to fix it. I expect a fix within the next few months at this rate.
Same problem here. I tried everything but nothing works.
After doing all the ‘fixes’ I mentioned (none of which fixed the FPS stutter) I took more of a look into the logs (FenrisDebug.txt in the game’s folder).
Noticed I was getting the ‘Start polling audio devices’ message as others have mentioned, and 'Polling audio devices complete. Found: 28 Default: ‘Default’
From this I figured to change the game’s settings so it’s not looking for the default sound output.
I set my ‘Sound Output Device’ to my Headphones instead of ‘System Default’ (in game settings).
This seems(?) to have stopped the stutter for me (still happens occasionally in new areas, guess it’s just loading textures). My character’s voice sounds a bit muffled now though, idk if it was always like that.
Another suggestion was to quit NVIDIA Broadcast if you use it, might be that too.
If it starts stuttering again I’ll be back with more sadness and info.
TLDR: Try setting the sound output device in your games settings to your headphones/speakers instead of ‘System Default’.

One last thing to try, set mouse polling rate to 250 or less.
Okay, so I have been following this page for days and finally fixed my issue. I found that I had a “usb” device that was constantly reconnecting triggering the audio device loop in the fenrir logs. After downloading EventGhost and UsbTreeView, I found that my RGB fans needed an update and were constantly triggering the reconnecting events. I updated the fans through MSI Ceneter and I’m up to 150+ FPS for the first time from a permanent 4 FPS the last few days. I hope this helps others because it has been driving me insane trying to find the solution.
Haven’t figured anything out yet, still 3-4 fps as soon as I launch the game. I’ve tried everything except resetting my router, gonna try that soon.
I finally found something that worked for me:
Switched Shader Cache to “Unlimited” in NVCP.
(And Power Management in NVCP to “Maximum Performance” in NVCP for Diablo IV.exe.)
(I noticed switching Textures from Ultra to High back to Ultra fixed the issue. But since I switched Shader Cache to Unlimited I haven’t needed to switch the texture option back and forth. Been working for a couple of hours.)
Setup: 3080 ti, i7 8700k, 32 GB 3600 mhz, SSD.
I have the same issues (dropping from 144 fps to half or even lower constantly). I found a solution that permanently stop the stuttering for me, is that cap the fps to 60 (although i hope they fix the issue because my rig can easily run this game 144fps).
I’ve literally tried everything and every spec or option.
Have a well and truly above ultra spec PC. So now just waiting on blizzard to figure it out and fix it. I think it is going to be a few months sadly.
So, my two cents here.
Long story short - I tried everything in this thread, with no luck, until I turned off Nvidia Broadcast (I’m on version 1.4.0.29)
The patch 1.0.2e is out now, claiming to fix some stuttering, so I will test it if it helped. If not, I will gradually downgrade the Nvidia Broadcast versions if any would work well.
Update 1: Framerate drop/Stutter is still present for me. Will test older Nvidia Broadcast versions
Update 2: Still the same with NV Broadcast versions 1.3.0.45 (yr old) and 1.2.0.49 (2 yr old). So ditching NV broadcast for now until Blizz and/or Nvidia figure this out
Disclaimer - not claiming this is solution for the whole thread. Nevertheless, turning off NVBroadcast is the workaround for me.
Cool can you update please if latest patch helps.
Can confirm the disablement of SSDP did the trick for me as well. I tried every other resolution out there with no success. Very strange.
I’m not sure if it was both of these things or one, but this is what fixed it for me.
I am also experiencing stuttering after last patch.
Running on 2k, 165hz
I have an RX 7900 XTX
Capped my FPS, VSYNC, using FSR 2…
Not sure what else to do
I’ve tried all the proposed solutions so far and I’m still getting big fps drops. From 144 fps to 5 fps or savage stuttering for 2 seconds and then back to normal. This occurs on all graphics settings (from low to ultra).
The game is currently unplayable for me.
PS: Thanks for all the proposed solutions
Same for me. It’s going to have to be a fix their end
Diablo 4 suddenly loads my GPU to 100% and sets a very stable 15 fps
