Frame Generation

When on earth are you guys enabling frame generation?

My CPU is dying without it.

Turn off Ray Tracing, Distortion and Chromatic Aberration.

It helps.

As for an answer, who knows?

I dont use RTX… Frame gen just helps CPU load for me and this season its off so wtf blizz.

Frame gen only works on RTX 40xx series cards.

And it affects overall performance.

I run a 4080 Super, FE. With FG, I can run the game at 1440p with DLSS@DLAA, Graphics set to Ultra with most of the Ray tracing enabled/maxed and get a solid 100FPS (capped, monitor does 165)

But with FG off, it can stumble a bit. And with the new chromatic aberration, it’s better to turn all that off for smoother fps stability for now, at least for me.

Dude… I have a 4070 and have ran Frame Gen in past seasons…

ITS FORCED OFF…

They put a notice when the season started it was for stability reasons and never gave a date or timeframe when it’ll come back…

I know. Why are you harping?

odd, for a feature that is used by a good amount of people with RTX40+ cards, that this is not fixed lol.

Ok, so this is a legit question to you folks: When Frame Gen was working did the game actually look better to you? I’m running an AMD 7700X with a Gigabyte RTX 4080 OC 16GB and I felt like everything was super blurry with it on versus off, not to mention weird artifacting under some circumstances. It seems to actually work well in other games, though.

Am I missing something? I feel like I am.

works perfect, can’t notice a thing but then again, I am on a 18inch laptop.

Nah, I have a 4070 Ti and all those rendering shortcuts like frame gen and upscaling look like crap compared to native resolution. You’re not alone and your eyes aren’t deceiving you. I feel the same way about modern antialiasing solutions, they make the screen look like you smeared vaseline all over it. I’ll take a crisp native image any day of the week over that abomination.

THANK YOU!.. I really thought I was doing something wrong. I’m running this game on a 55" 120hz 4K GSync TV (LG C2 OLED). The vaseline analogy is exactly what I was experiencing. I felt like putting on a pair of glasses while already wearing glasses.

Yes, I’ve defaulted to playing in native for that very reason.

Appreciate your feedback! Yes, I feel like the screen size is the main factor here in terms of perceived differences. I do believe in the tech, though. It definitely looks noticeably better in other games, like Cyberpunk. Maybe we’ll get an improved version for DIV in a future update.

Its not about looks… It ran my CPU cooler and the usage was stable/fair with my 4070…

FG being disabled creates a bottleneck for my current system and was the only thing keeping my CPU cool.

Sure call it a me issue all you want but it was an option I used to make the game smoother for me. Sue me.

No, I totally get your point and why you need it. I agree that hopefully they can get it not only fixed but also on the same level as what other games are able to pull off so that it’s not just CPU performance/cooling but also to the same level on graphic fidelity.

My question was really about the graphic fidelity since it seemed to relate to the topic at hand. Sorry, did not mean to disregard your concern, since it’s valid.

Fidelity and stability in all ARPGs is wonky… Strategy games suffer the same thing due to the isometric nature of the game and many actions or entities on screen.

People that tell you PoE runs smoothy and has no screen tearing or foggy edges is just straight lying to you or hasn’t built anything past a basic build at level 40.

The game is sharp early stages but all ARPGs late game suffer visual clog and that extends to AA and screen tearing.

Framegen only helps the gpu directly. If it helped your cpu it was because your gpu didn’t get so hot, thus it didn’t affect your cpu as much with the hot air coming from the gpu.

Framegen just doubles the rendered frames. If you limit your fps to 120, game is rendering at max 60 frames only. If you limit it to 60 fps, game is only rendering 30 frames.
If your gpu was able to handle 120 without frame gen, and you limit it to 120 with framegen, you’re gpu is basically doing only half the work, less overall temps for the entire pc, because the biggest heat dump is the gpu.

Also if you’re removing the gpu bottleneck and for some reason the gpu or just the ambient air temps remain the same in the vicinity of the cpu, your cpu might actually do more work and get hotter, because it’s not waiting for the gpu to do its thing.

If your cpu is bottlenecked, then only by increasing the gpu performance needs will remove the cpu bottleneck, by making a gpu bottleneck, and while going lower with graphics setting won’t do anything fps wise. But sounding from you, a cpu bottleneck wasn’t an issue.

It’s just that you’re missing the quieter gpu and lower ambient temps, which help all the system components.

I’m using i7 14700k and rtx 4070, I miss the framegen, I miss having less crashes, and now I miss even dlss. The only thing we can hope for at the moment is that they bring us as a compromise FSR 3 scaling with FSR 3 Framegen.

Lets try not to keep making excuses for poor quality.

I know what my system needs and for D4 to run a bit cooler CPU wise I need frame gen like i did last season. Plain and simple.

I’m not upgrading my CPU just for one game.

Space Marine 2 had the same damn issue and it took 4 separate patches for them to finally fix it because it was on their end 100%.

For D4 it’s a game issue but I used FG to solve it. They will refuse to fix the game side issue regarding usage and temps CPU side. 13900 and 14900k users are reporting the same issues with power draw in D4 with the BIOS fix for the 13-14th gen issues and undervolting.

Intel K users like myself should have no issues with the voltages.
The Bios fixes/updates were for non K chips.
Always go for the best cooling solution your budget allows, and reapply silver heat transfer grease at least every five years, if you applied the last yourself properly. If not
reapply it now, and get a new cooler.

This isnt a big deal type situation. I just like to keep my stuff cooler than intended. FG helped with that. My temps are within “normal” ranges for a i7-11700k but I like to keep them cooler. Limit FPS and other various tweaks. SO I need to stop seeing people assuming things about my rig when all this post was for is to get blizzard to explain WHY FG is still disabled this long in a season.
