FPS Collapse after teleporting

Without fail, every time i teleport to a new area my FPS absolutely falls through the floor.

60fps (which for whatever reason seems to be locked even with all options to utilise a 120hz monitor none are working) goes barely into double digits. We’re talking 9-11fps.

Seriously, wtf…

Prior teleport, GPU utilisation at ~35-40%. Once i teleport GPU utilisation goes up to 99% and the game becomes completely unplayable. How have you actually made this game so bug-ridden, blizzard?

You are having a problem loading assets. So it is killing your FPS.

What kind of drive are you playing from? NVME SSD (more than 5k read or less than 5k read), SATA SSD, HDD?

Is the drive nearly full?

How much memory do you have?

What kind of GPU do you have?

CPU?

SPECS!

I wonder if this is related to the issue of Fenris Crashes.

Me and many others, judging by the Tech Support forum, are experiencing a massive increase in Fenris crashes, often when teleporting but sometimes just entering a new zone/area or just randomly since the last patch.

Directly after the patch, in my case, it wasn’t that bad really but in the last few days it’s been getting progressively worse and worse. can barely play the game for a few minutes without crashing.

Blizz needs to address this ASAP.

I think because when you teleport to a new area, you encountered new players in the open world, and your PC have to load all of the players stash and their inventories resulting in your PC dropping in performance.

Strangely, it usually crashes in the middle of casting the teleport, before it even makes it to the loading screen.

What you’re saying may be true though for entering new zones/areas on foot or mount though.

Hi, I have a similar problem after the last update. After trying to teleport anywhere, the server disconnects.

I filed a ticket yesterday after trying everything ik of. I crash everytime i portal since 1.1.1 i cant play it anymore. Their resonse was…make sure your drivers are updated. Uh yeah i did that. Thats it? Just make sure youre drivers are updated? Some nerd said it was solarflares? Lol :alien: idk

Yep, standard tech support reply when they don’t know what to tell you.

Angry Southpark blue collar worker voice:
“Cherk yer Drervers!”

But, I already updated my drivers and all the usual, generic tech-supporty suggestions.

Game is still borked, man. :man_shrugging:

Are all of you using Nvidia cards?

Try going back to driver 535.98. (this was the one released just before D4 released) Use the DDU uninstaller to make sure to remove all the newer files.

I’m running on 535.98 and not having these issues at all. I have not updated my driver as I have not seen a need to do so. I can understand why someone that’s having problems would want to keep updating their driver in the hopes the update will cure the issue.

But I would like to know the following. All of you having the teleport disconnect issue specifically:

  • Processor (Brand and generation)
  • RAM (Speed and amount)
  • GPU (Brand, Model, Driver version)
  • Drive type the game is installed on (NVME SSD, SATA SSD, HDD)
  • Internet provider and type (Fiber, Cable, DSL, Etc)
  • Windows version
  • If on a console, what console brand and generation

Lets see if there are any commonalities. Just copy the list and add in your specific details in a reply.

Thanks,

It’s not an asset issue. It can’t be. If that were the case it would eventually settle or even occur when i first load into the game. It never does.

At the moment, I’m looking for any similar setups or something in common with those having the problem. So the more of you that can report your configs the more I have to go on. Thanks!

I was looking originally at the asset loading as teleporting to a new area after playing in another area will force an asset load situation. Hence the reason I brought it up.

Just did it mid-dungeon. Completely out of nowhere, 60fps to 10…

I have all the teleport, game crashes issues discussed so many in these forums, since patch 1.1.1. Especially teleporting to Nightmare Dungeons and out of Nightmare Dungeons back to Kyovashad.

Are you playing on low settings at 720p resolution with lock at 30fps?
You did not specify what version of your video card.

GTX 960 2G is about the same as R9 280.

Do you have a 2GB or 4GB VRAM 960?
2 would most likely cause issues.

That means Blizzard expects you to play with FSR on and upscale to 1080P.

Maybe. But it doesn’t say so, so it won’t overload the video card.
He may even have a 4k monitor. And it could be worse.
