My daily routine for the past week. Log in, find the longest helltide (at least 45 min) mindlessly farm the next 3 helltides for 3 hours for Forgotton souls opening as many chests as possible. Do 3 Hordes, 5 or 6 nmds, whatever undercity tributes for obdicite I have to get at the least 10k to 15k obdicite…masterwork 1 piece of gear. Rinse, repeat constantly. Forgotten souls have become the new rawhide issue this season, please increase the drop rate on those so we can at least masterwork a bit before we have to go farm again.

I can agree with this… I’m farming helltides right now.
I got all my gear at 8/12 with a yellow stat but now I’m out of Forgotten Souls.
Boss kills give 5-6… and the rep chest gives like 25.
Good news is though I think with the upcoming update we will be able to buy rep with all this leftover ash and that will be another way to stockpile souls.

Weird, I have almost 10k souls still and I’ve upgraded tons of gear over 4 classes. I don’t do exessive amount of helltides, but when I do, I always open the Tortured Gifts of Mysteries on both helltides. Now Obducites is another issue. I never have enough of these.
You must do an awful lot of bosses then. I don’t have the mats for that so if that’s where you’ve gotten them, good for you. I do 3 hours of helltides, I open EVERY chest and kill EVERY boss I see as well as elites. I’ve done that for 3 days now and still do not have 2 strikes on more than 1 piece of gear. I’ve been out of forgotten souls constantly. 1 piece of gear, to get it to strike twice takes over a 1000 of them. You only get maybe 400 when you farm helltide.
HUGE imbalance. It’s just like a couple seasons ago when you couldn’t get enough rawhide.

Yes I do tons of bosses, but you know you can also buy them in a cache at the Den.
I am having the same exact problem, farming for souls is ruining the game experience for me at this point. The dropped amount needs to be severely increased or give a chance for salvaging items to give back souls.

Thank you for pointing out the forgotten souls. Im just playing the game and i only have 5k left. Must quickly restock. I dont want to run out of them. 
Well yes that’s true you can, but you don’t get anywhere NEAR what you need and they only show up 1 or 2 times in in the list. The drop needs to be increased. You are getting them from the bosses and the gear. Try NOT doing that and masterwork a character and see how difficult it is without zillions of boss runs.

I feel the same way. Given how essential master working is, getting those double or triple hits the rate of forgotten souls dropping is ruining my experience this season.
When I log in I have to focus on farming forgotten souls so that at some point this season, when my gear is master worked I can actually enjoy the breathe of end game activities.
As someone who enjoys playing off meta builds it just absolutely kills my ability to experiment and find a build that is fun for me. It pushed me into these meta builds that have explicitly prescribed modes of play.
For the last two weeks I’ve repeatedly run out of forgotten souls, I literally don’t have enough to change an aspect on a new piece of gear and this happens all the time. It perpetuates this cycle of having a few hundred and then going to 0 and starting the farming all over again.
Yep. That’s exactly how it went for me.
To update my first post upthread… I took all my gear to 8/12 yellow stat first before I went for the triple crits. When I was at 8/12 on all I had maybe 1000 crystals… and the other day I hit the triple crit orange on my final piece of gear.
I ran out of souls like 5 times. Obducite was relatively easy… I mostly did UC runs… buying caches at the den… and some NMDs to mix it up along with some hordes.
For souls I farmed Belial… 7-8 per kill on T4… cashed in the ash for rep chests which were like 25 per. Always grabbed material caches from the tree (like 100 souls) and chaos was also good… around 50 souls.
I would farm up 600-800 souls every time in a few hours and go for it.
Not any more though… I’m 9/9 orange. Now I can focus on pit pushing to cap the glyphs.
Only 17.4k forgotten souls atm. Thats not much. But im a poor rogue. 
Burn thru about 250k obducite trying to go for the trip crit on 9 pieces of gear and let us know where you’re at after.

Players being short of Forgotten Souls is just as strange for me as players being short of Rawhide in previous seasons.
I don’t even know what mats are needed when Masterworking except for Obducite because that’s the only mats that’s been preventing from Masterworking my gear. How do you manage to get so much Obducite to make the other mats be the problem? Running NMDs in T4, I am getting at best 1.5 k Obducite, I don’t even think of double crits.
UC runs with the MW tribute yield 2000… and I’ve gotten more than that from hordes. NMD isn’t as lucrative but I still run them to mix it up.
Souls drop in less numbers. A T4 Belial kill was giving me like 40-60 crystals… souls like 7-8. That’s how you end up short on souls. No problems with any of the other mats but when you are attempting to triple crit MW all your gear… the 1-8 aren’t all that expensive… but 9-12 are… and if you miss it and have to reset… well… there you go.
The materials and chaos chests are a good source of souls… as are the rep chests. Other than those you are looking at 7-8 from boss kills… blood maiden… helltide chests… etc…
UC with Tribute is a bit better than NMDs but the Tributes are not so easy to find. I have plenty for Bosses and Runes but I believe had only 15 for Obducite that I already used. IH are OK if you have a build able to collect a lot of Aether but the problem for compasses is the same as for Tributes. I can’t do more than 3 successive Hordes anyway.
I currently have 8.5K Forgotten Souls, enough to Masterwork 12/12 90 items. I don’t Masterwork as many items in a season because I don’t fine that many worth upgrading. Will do it even less in S8 due to the reduced quality/quantity of Ancestrals. I would need to burn 525K Obducite before being short on Souls, 350 NMDs runs at a minimum.
I said it in a previous post, the Devs announcing a reduction in Masterworking mats other than Obducite is a joke for me. It seems some players are going to be happy. I still don’t understand how that’s possible.
