I have now used 3 of the whispering potions and still have not seen a single altar anywhere on the map.
I just did 1 straight hour of Horfrost Demise as suggested on reddit. Nothing.
I have now used 2 full potions (2 hours) and ran only the green areas. Nothing.
A, I doing something wrong? What do these altars even look like?
The post I read say they can vary on appearance but will be obvious.
Has anyone took a screenshot of one of these? Can you share it?
I have no more whisper potions.
Can these altars be found without a potion?
Yea i been using the potions and did about 2 dozen nightmare dungeons and not one altar. F this game seriously. Broken af.
Cant even sell the grimoires that they said vouod be sold if already learned

I just dropped my doubles on the ground. What’re they even worth anyway? I’d assume 1gold like most of those consumables.
I’m running dungeons now. I’ll post in this thread if I find an Altar.
As for “Farming” them.
Hoarfrost Demise in Fractured Peaks, Bear Tribe Waypoint - 1st dungeon NNE of town, seems to be the unanimous “efficient meta farm” as it’s small and circular.
No need to kill - just put on music and speed run, reset, rinse and repeat.
Incredibly boring but it serves a purpose.
Since the Altars can spawn anywhere on the level(s), one could run hundreds of Dungeons and, unlikely as it is, it’s possible they’d never encounter one if they didn’t full clear) certain map types that is - hence why Hoarfrost is so popular - literally cannot miss it) and it saves massive amounts of time not running much larger maps for no reason.
Larger dungeons and pits would take forever if RNG frowned upon thee.
As for egregious grind… let’s talk about Seasonal Gem

it works well with T4 NMD runs… found 4 in dungeons runs yesterday.
It seems they went a little heavy handed with the Seasonal theme this time around.
It’s almost like there’s fishing for balance with pretty much everything presently.(What’s new haha)
Gems are quite the grind.
Rot comes very very slow vs other seasons material and even the Seasonal journey is tuned fairly grindy
Considering the hoops to make a Mythic vs previous seasons where it was make an alt - blast season journey/theme & craft at will - everything is, once again, on the grind side.
Not a bad thing, a grind, but the weighting is much heavier than previously.
The Altars probably should be slightly more common considering everything there is “To Do”.
Though some claim ridiculous numbers for their own experience “I did or found or whatever X in Y time, it’s not that bad” - which I question strongly considering a few users here post positively outrageous claims since forever, the average player has much more farming to do than pretty much any previous Season.
Hopefully Blizz/Devs find a good balance and don’t lean too heavily in any extreme direction.
So yea, took me quite a few runs to find the altars - and a friend gave me my 4th. In total - 2 characters Paragon 240 I’ve found 4 total. That’s pretty rare for a Seasonal theme imo(not bad, just an observation).
Still haven’t even crafted my end game gems because heads weren’t dropping until very recently.

Thanks for the Hoarfrost Demise clue! I just found my final 2 forgotten altars in 30 minutes. At T4, it just took me 9-10 runs through the NMD. I found both altars NOT in the upper circle, but both were in the NMD after going down from the circle.
Anyway, finally knocked off the 2 altars I hadn’t been able to find for the last week!
