Forced Co-Op for Endgame Dungeons is a Terrible Idea

Dear Blizzard Devs,

Forcing players into co-op for new endgame dungeons is honestly a stupid move. Not everyone wants to team up. Some of us prefer playing solo, mastering the game on our own. Forcing co-op strips away that choice.

On top of that, many players don’t have time to schedule around others for long sessions. You’re alienating people who want to play at their own pace. Let us choose how we play—stop forcing co-op on everyone.

Sincerely,
A Frustrated Player

Thx for letting us know.
Blizz ignored all other same topics with hundreds replies. But now they will for sure change it few days before release.

Well played

Ok, then dont play the opinional coop dungeon. They are putting in systems to join groups for those who dont have friends. You have the tools, its a choice should you choose to participate

As Lazyloaf said it’s optional. The only thing to gather in this new co-op dungeon is cosmetics. The rest obtained in this dungeon can be found elsewhere, including the scroll for tempering rerolls.

So when you really think about it, it’s very similar to the PvP cosmetics. It’s optional, some people probably won’t bother, and who knows they may make a solo version in the future, but it won’t be anytime soon.

The group finder feature could be amazing—let’s see how it turns out. Who knows, it might even help with trading. Imagine posting: LFG: Buying your boss mats for 50m!

You are completely right OP. Sadly, Blizzard doesnt have the best history of listening to player feedback untill its too late

Its sad though, just when they were improving the game, they come up with this

Your definition of “forced” does not match our Earth definition…

It is often quoted that 82% of D4 players play solo. However I was a World Boss yesterday and noticed that 5 out of 8 players (62.5%) had a clan designation suggesting that many solo player would like to play in groups if it was easier to find people. I suspect Blizzard’s internal data supports this.

Along with the Citadel a group finder is also being introduced. I suspect the Citadel was created to encourage people to at least try the new feature. It is optional. Nobody is being forced to try it and with the new group finder it should be easy to try at your convenience.

Many people choose not to fight Uber Lilith. Many people chose not to try AOZ or the gauntlet. The Citadel is just another feature designed to appeal to a certain segment of the D4 population. Why do solo players hate group players?

Reset scrolls are a “small chance” outside the Citadel. Which could easily mean pretty much impossible to find outside the Citadel.

Khazra Horns on the other hand are exclusive to the Citadel and not obtainable outside the Citadel. These are used to transmute boss materials.

Finally, you can buy other loot with the citadel coins. With the vendor getting new items every week. As they want to encourage people to run this thing it’s safe to assume these are going to be good rewards. It’s likely to be the best place to farm end game stuff in the game. Because if it’s not nobody is going to bother with it.

In short, being obtainable elsewhere doesn’t make it okay if those other choices are much less efficient.

There are other actual SSF arpgs out there. Even Diablo 3 has it. Suggest playing games that make you feel comfortable

Are you referring to ONE dungeon with ONE other player?

This game was expressly advertised as play solo or with your friends.

Not play solo but you’ll miss out on stuff.

As minor as it is, this is bait and switch.

It’s also not in any way comparable to SSF play. SSF play implies only using items and resources you found yourself. Not that you’re accepting you simply can’t get some.

“but as I said before, nothing in Diablo IV is going to require partying up. You can play Solo, and dungeons are private, and campaign quest areas will remain private.” - Blizzcon 2019

We went from this :point_up_2:to this

“First of its kind to Diablo, this dungeon will require eager warriors to team up and take down various perils together. More details on this game mode will be revealed soon.” - 2024 Blog.

Some dude making a comment in 2019 does not constitute Diablo IV being a single player experience for the entire life cycle of the game. This game, VoH, is advertising co-op gameplay. If you don’t want it, don’t get it. Or wait until they release SSF mode.

I don’t think so. I think the hordes as well as the new Undercity dungeon will be used quite a bit. I could easily see the co-op dungeon being turned into a weekly (considering the weekly reward), and then people ignoring it for the most part unless to run a friend though. Once people have their cosmetics and a good enough supply of what they want, I feel it will be forgotten just like the Gauntlet.

I could be wrong of course, but we’ll find out soon enough. No use worrying about it now.

More of a morality stance then anything else. It’s up to Blizzard to decide, all we can do is give our feedback on the matter. Now I don’t agree with a mandatory co-op dungeon myself, but it wouldn’t be the nail in the coffin for me either.

Angela Del Priore lead UI designer.

Already have it and am ready to jump in to the VoH with my spiritborn (Iggi-Glave). Thanks for caring.

I think you got it backwards, anything in the game could be solod or grouped but they add an event that must be grouped and the overwhelming number of solo players complain and y’all try and make it look like they are asking for something special. Could of avoided all this by making it soloable

There seems to be a bit of confusion around this. There originally was talk of a weekly award but now I am seeing that the rewards will be updated weekly.

Wowhead states "The rewards for the Dark Citadel will be updated every week, giving players incentive to regularly complete this new co-op endgame activity. " with no mention of a one time weekly award.

But yeah, have to wait and see.

from the little bit I saw in the clip it looks really, really, really bad.
MMO raid bad (DPS in a circle around big boss guy). one guy ran to spot X, so other guy could go through Y.
other games do this much much better.

I had not checked wowhead, so thank you for this. I know wowhead isn’t exactly law, but as long as it isn’t a ‘speculation’ on their part as they tend to do, I very may well be wrong in this case.

I am sensing a bit of dishonesty in some of the answers here.

Those familiar with Blizzard perfectly know what “there’s a chance for” mean. It is just like there is a chance for a Mythic to drop anywhere. They are plenty of players who experienced that, happened to me once. But, when you need a Mythic, you do Tbosses, not Helltides or Whispers. Someone who bricked an item is not going to wait for the “chance to get” a scroll.

The “you are not forced to” is again a dishonest argument. You not forced to do, Helltides, NMDs, the Pit, Hordes but doing all those activities is playing the game…The only content you have to do is the main story, all the rest is optional but better not buy the game if you don’t do it. I don’t know much about the Citadel, maybe I am wrong, but if it is a several hours long dungeon, it looks to me as the main endgame content for VoH. You don’t spend 40$ on the Xpac if you are not going to do it. The story is going to be short. You will want to spend most of the time doing end game content. Is the Citadel the equivalent of the Pit in S4 or the Hordes in S5?

My advice to solo player, those of didn’t pre-order, is to try to find a couple of friends who could be interested in playing the game with them. Otherwise wait until you know for sure where the game is going with group only activities before buying.
