Hello, I lost my sorcerer in hardcore when the flame shield skill enchantment did not activate. The enchantment states “automatically activates when you take fatal damage can only happen once every 120 seconds”. Clearly I took fatal damage but it did not activate. I did not have the skill equipped but had points in it and also had it as one of my skill enchantment effects. Further to this another sorcerer I know who does have it equipped to the skills bar and has the enchantment unfortunately had the same experience in hardcore

I can confirm this, although it may not be true in all cases since I obviously am not about to test that while grinding in Hardcore. My character was deleted when I logged out with no monsters loaded on screen, AND I had the Flame Shield Enchantment. I went back to character select instantly, and it said my character was already gone in less than 1 second from full HP with no monsters loaded where I was. I tested it in Softcore, and I was able to leave game anywhere and start loading the same character again in less than 2 seconds, so it is literally impossible especially considering how well built my character was and the fact he had full HP too with no monsters on screen at the time. Basically, it is implying that monsters either spawned or flew onto my character from off screen within 1 second, did more than 9000 HP worth of damage, waited 2+ seconds for Flame Shield to end, and then killed my character even though it said my character was gone in less than 1 second as I was already in character select screen by then and the pop up was there, which already proved it to be impossible since Flame Shield is longer than that time.
Skill equipped… no activation… death at level 37. dont mind dieing… but lack of proccing on a skill that is supposed to save ya from this fate… is rather silly…
I lost a level 40 srocerer and a level 51 sorcerer to this skill not proccing. I thought the first sorc could have been my fault for accidentally unselecting the skill in the enchantment list or something. Then I was WAY more careful on my second sorcerer and he just died at 51 without it proccing.
I did notice that sometimes when I wanted to manually cast flame shield I would have to click it 3 or 4 times before it would cast. Maybe this bug carries over into the enchantment effect?
This happened to me as well lost a level 60 and then just got back to 53 and it happened again. Wish blizz would make it restore you to 1 life with the flame shield active would solve the problem. Pretty sure what is happening is multiple hits at the same time kill you before the shield procs. But after that first hit you should be immune to the next couple of hits.
Unfortunate dangers of playing HC though makes the game more exciting but also sad/infuriating at times.
I noticed there were no patch note comments on this skill. I have had friends who died with the cheat death potion active as well.
I have found that (some, maybe all) skills won’t work if I am holding the SHIFT key down (which I use as HOLD POSITION) when I hit the key for a skill.

@PaJoot Is it only the “R” hotkey by the way? Shift + R is bound to reply to latest whisper. Something I"ve been meaning to do - but not sure if it’s possible: unbind that and it should work.
Anyway, on to the current topic: Flame Shield Enchant seems to have several (maybe it’s all the same trigger) interaction that will prevent it from proccing. Can’t tell what it is, but I’ve ripped because of it.
IMO, this should be high on Blizzard priority list because it really is a high grief-level bug (playing in a risky manner suited for a second chance proc but you just RIP instead…that’s pretty bad).

I haven’t tried unbinding the (SHIFT + R) to see if it works, just saw your reply. Thanks though for the idea, will have to check it out. Since Flame Shield didn’t proc for me when I only had it in enchantment slot and lost my toon, I now have it on my action bar Left Mouse button, and I can use it by SHIFT LM button.
I’ve just died because of this bug.
And it’s not even in incoming patch, they just don’t want to fix it.
