Fix the dumb tempering system

Make that “we’ve all re-rolled useless items 30 or 40 times” and you’re getting closer. The last 2 items I tried tempering before I took a break to play D3 bricked. I’m Just trying to get the +4 Hydra temper on a staff for my Sorceress and it never came up. Every single time I got Hydra (which is only a 1 in 4 chance) it rolled +2 instead of +4. And those were the 4th and 5th times I’ve tried upgrading my non-GA staff with another non-GA staff. And the few times I’ve gotten the +4 to roll it gives me useless rolls on the second temper. So I’ve now bricked 5 items with no upgrade. Add to that I still haven’t seen a GA staff drop yet and you might see why players are frustrated with this crummy joke of a system.

You should play the lottery. With odds like that youll prob win.

Thats ok. Myself, the last time I played D3 it got 4 hours before the uninstall. Not my taste.

Oh thats a fun one. I played it on the PTR. How does it scale on T4?

I don’t have a clue… since my Sorceress has absolute zero pieces of GA gear and lousy aspects she’s only in T2 HC at the moment. But, heh, it’s still a fun build.

Yeah, i see something like that being super gear dependent.

Regardless im the descending voice in this thread. Do I like tempering better then what we had before? Yes. Could it be better? Yes.

Id like to see tempering interact and change skill behavior then a [ x ] %

Lazyoaf is a troll, guys. Just put them on ignore.

I think this is where the disconnect is coming from. The system might be mathematically better in that we have some control of the last two attributes on an item. But since it fails so often it feels like a kick in the crotch.

Old system: 2 or more attributes aren’t usable for your build, trash it…
Old system: Only 1 isn’t usable for your build, enchant repeatedly until you get it.
New system: 3 attributes you want drop… and depending on what you need you have an 80% or more chance of destroying it.

And, yes, the numbers really are that bad. With my sorceress she’s trying to get a 1 in 8 chance combined with a 1 in 10 chance. That comes out to only 12 chances to hit that 1 in 80 pairing. Meaning on average she’ll need to trash 6-7 staves trying to get one she can use. So 6 fails out 7 items is an 85.7% failure rate at tempering. And that’s with the temper scroll.

So all the grinding to get something and see it snatched away from us doesn’t make the players go, “Gee, at least I had a chance at getting what I wanted” Rather we feel robbed, cheated, swindled, deceived and lied to by Blizzard.

Yes, you can haul out spreadsheet after spreadsheet with analysis of how that it’s still a higher percentage than before but it FEELS worse because our agency is stripped away by an arbitrary cut off. Perhaps Blizzard should get an award for making an improvement feel 10X worse then before because that takes some real effort.

There’s no thrill. I actually loathe getting upgraded items to drop, because it means I have to go back to the blacksmith and pray I get the tempers I’m already using.

And if I don’t get the right tempers (I’m not even talking decent temper range), I can’t even use the item I was supposed to be “thrilled” for.

Whoever came up with tempering does NOT understand the psychology of finding loot in a game.

Our experience vastly differs im just going to say without failure then can be no feeling of excitement.

If everyone just got spoon fed what they wanted it would just be a D3 clone.

I bricked a third item but it wasnt really a brick as I hit movement of boots first roll as min then proceeded to miss every time after with a scroll. oopsie!

And we’re back to the start of my thread with you. You’ve gotten lucky and don’t understand how other players can feel cheated by the system in place. Maybe you and the other white knights for Blizzard can learn what empathy is and try to see how the other 85.7% of us live.

Oh, dont get me wrong. Ive had my spouts of bad luck but it comes with playing arpgs. Your not lucky all the time.

I wont rip you for that “white knight” bs but its not about empathy. When I play an arpg I do not expect anything. Your playing an rng slot machine and if your expecting to win 100% of the time its an entitlement issue, nothing more.

The OVERWHELMING majority of players think it feels bad, which it does. It is an entirely new and redundant system shoehorned into the game. Just because a handful of contrarians want to shower their praise on it thinking Blizzard will award them White Knight brownie points doesn’t mean the system is good.

No one is expecting easy mode or 100% win. For many the items they need take days of farming, what we want is to not have items that take huge amounts of time and effort to get turned into bricks by an RNG just because “hey its a slot machine and we can”. there are many better ways to do this that doesn’t make it easy mode and doesn’t screw people over.

No… I don’t expect to “win” 100% of the time… but I don’t expect to fail 100% of the time either and that’s what’s happening. I told you I went 0 for 60 trying to upgrade runes… (actually that’s up to 0 for 66 now) I’ve got no ancestral gear on my sorc despite countless hours farming for gear. It’s not that I want total success… I want SOME… just a little… which is more than the game gives way too many of us.

Tempering overall has been a failure. The proof is that they have had to change how it works over and over and over gain. When do you get to the point you say the original design is a failure and we need to start over? Tempering is just feel bad after feel bad after feel bad.

Hit what you want but its min roll and you have tons of rolls left? Feels bad to have to keep this?

Hit Evade CD when you want movement speed 7 times in a row? Feel bad.

Hit cold or fire damage when you can hit poison or shadow damage 8 times in a row with 4 max rolls of fire damge. Feel bad.

Hit max Double Cast of Frozen Orbs then miss 14 rolls of your second temper. Feel bad.

Hit both good tempers you want but you are so braindead zombie mode from this crap you rolled it again. Feel Bad.

Scrolls helped but did it really? It just makes you immediately alt - F4 when you brick twice.

I’m not saying that tempering isn’t frusterating. But if something like this keeps people in the game to play more/grind more then let them. People don’t have to do/play this btw.

You did the Right thing by playing something else.

Game made Billions of dollars and people say the game is a failure and people are leaving in droves, … really? (not saying you said that)

You have people here who feel the tempering is horrible, but I can’t help but to think over all, World Wide how people feel about it, and I’m talking about the silent ones. And I won’t even assume anything, people need to stop assuming as well.

Is the tempering system RNG based - YES

Is the tempering system Bricked Item - YES

Is the tempering system making farming hard - YES

Is the tempering system prolong gametime - YES

Is the tempering system working as intended - YES

Is the tempering system dumb - NO

Is OP a crybaby - HELL YA

feel free to come up with statistics on it. I never believe in the “trust me bro” source. you can do that if you want, but dont expect me to take your infomation serious.
dont get angry tho if there is another Poll on X and suddenly the people who scream MAJORITY! figure they arent the majority.

The randomizer in this game is comically awful, and I’m pretty shocked Blizzard hasn’t addressed it.

Frankly, I can’t see how anyone who’s played the again any significant amount of time could disagree with the randomizer being terrible.

well, its more representative than the forum bickering for sure ;D
