I’d like to take this opportunity to share my first impressions of the Lord of Hatred expansion. I’ve logged over 1,500 hours in Diablo 4 so far. Most of the time, I play with my girlfriend in couch co-op on the PS5. However, I’ve only just started exploring the latest expansion.
I really enjoyed the campaign. The cutscenes are lavishly produced. The journey to level 70 felt good. Of course, I chose the new Warlock class to start with. I like the Warlock quite a bit, but my favorite classes remain the Druid and the Barbarian. I find the visual effects of the Warlock’s abilities both impressive and over-the-top. At times, it’s hard to keep track of what’s going on.
I’d especially like to point out that I currently feel stuck on Torment 1 and 2. I’m getting almost no legendary items (and thus aspects)—not to mention unique items. I’ve been stuck on Torment 2 for several hours now and don’t feel like I’m making any progress. That seems strange, because a loot filter becomes necessary at higher Torment levels. Friends of mine who are further along in the game confirm this experience.
What has particularly disappointed me is the revamp of the talent trees. I was so looking forward to it, only to realize during the leveling phase that starting around level 20, every additional point must be invested in a skill that has already been chosen. Other games handle this much better.
Couch co-op remains a major letdown. It feels like no one at Blizzard feels responsible for it. Even in the new expansion, my girlfriend and I are still running into bugs that have been around for quite some time. It would be really nice if Couch Coop got a little attention and love again at some point.
Don’t get me wrong. I really like the new expansion, but Diablo 4’s potential is still far from being fully realized. What do you think?
Greetings from Switzerland.
