Anyone got a decent fire mage build? I’m getting a little tired of lighting and ice builds.
Nope. Some people will tell you Fire Wall works, but it really doesn’t.
Yeah, unfortunately Fire Sorc is not good at the moment. I just hit lvl 54 while trying to run a burning sorc and managed to do the Tier3 capstone, it was a struggle but I got it. The dmg output is pretty bad, I’m running both the fire and cold shield to try to stay alive long enough to kill elites, feels real bad, I’ll be respec’ing into cold or levelling a different class.
- firebolt: takes too many shots to kill mobs, standing still is just bad, too weak
- fireball: too much mana for too little damage, does burning even trigger off this?
- hydra: the nerf was too heavy, pitiful dmg, so slow running in circles around them (2)
- inferno: dmg seems ok, the pull effect is nice, cooldown way too long
I tested out the firewall and meteor, these are not good because the mobs are highly mobile and easily avoid the damage.
Another issue is that no gear that I have found so far seems to be useful in the fire tree.
lvl 73 fire Sorc here. I am good with it, but you feel it is not on the lvl of ice and light, forget about other classes. The problem with fire is, it takes longer than other spells to have it effectiveness. some important things are as of now also buggy and don’t work or work in a way they shouldn’t. If they might fix these things and tweak the damage numbers on fire a bit it would be good. i still like it and I can play it so far on nm30 without problems. just a little slow.
PS: play what you enjoy, if you like fire, just play it.
I play a pure fire sorc and while I have fun, it often feels very weak compared to anything else, except maybe necro. Don’t see a lot of necros.
My setup is Flame Shield, Hydra (Enchanted), Teleport, Inferno, Firebolt (Enchanted), Incinerate.
I’m level 70 and can struggle through a T19 NM dungeon. I’m about to start working on WT4 overland content.
Fiery Surge doesn’t work, so once I’m out of mana, I have to play a game of kite-n-hydra. Incinerate does way too little damage, or takes way too much mana.
Peak damage output comes from applying all my burns at once and having movement speed buffs (unique boots), which means all my cooldowns have to be finished… and inferno is a ~35 second cooldown. It is an incredibly small window to hit consistently.
None of the uniques interest me, either. And you have no way to proc vulnerable, so you’re always at a disadvantage there.
BUT… the gameplay itself is pretty fun when I can kill stuff.
you can do a sweet incinerate off tank build with the right gear.
I found some pretty decent gear on my sorc for fire spec and spent a lot of my resources respeccing into a fire build.
Stuff like Staff of Endless Rage, amulet with +3 (thats +175% crit dmg) to Devouring Blaze, Esu boots.
Had baseline 34% crit chance, with potential to go even further once my movement upped and hits stacked. Think fully buffed I was closer to 60 crit chance.
And IF IF my fire immobilized and I crit, I would absolutely delete stuff…I’m talking 300-400k crits at level 60. . .but let me tell you how bad it felt hoping for that IF that sometimes never happened.
I had to force apply vul with ice nova for fireball non crits to actually do any damage. At that point I figured hell, might as well just stick with icicles they do more damage lol.
I seriously think that some multipliers are just not working.
I’m 58 Sorc T8 and still progressing. I use firebolt, fireball, hydra, flame shield, inferno, esu’s, and frost nova. Lot’s of burning dot’s, crits, and explosion, paragon searing heat board so far. I’ve found a lot of good synergies with passives and legendary bonuses.
I’m currently level 62 and can complete nightmare T20 dungeons without dying, but my clear speed is very slow.
I focus on firewall and hydras and kite enemies around, with flame shield and frost nova as safety skills, fire bolt for gaining mana, and the ult for everything. It can kill most everything, but already at NM20 it’s not really feeling fun.
Doing nm 35s at level 73.

I’m working towards a lucky hit/CDR/resource build that has Hydra constantly proccing while I zoom around and spam meteor.
I haven’t watched it yet… but Kripparian went to level 100 with a fire build (or so I heard…)

I have a similar build, use Hydra to proc Nova, found a bug that + lucky hit chance % gear actually LOWER the Hydra’s Lucky chance
Reported the bug, hope they fix it… soon…
Firewall sorc can work but its clunky. To do real damage you need to snapshot the damage stacking on the tele chest + frost nova + control LA combo with the 3 second lingering dot forewall modification. You can also scale firewall burning with crit damage via burning instinct on paragon board.
The concept is kind of interesting as you want to line your effects up with enemies leaving your firewall but it just doesnt play very smoothly
