Fire Build Experiment Question

Gonna try some experimentation with my fire build, but would love to hear opinions on what you all think is the better choice. Currently a fireball build using Teleport, inferno, frost nova, firewall, firebolt, fireball. I have a pretty good stack of mana reduction and resource generation, but i still decided to use firebolt to get back mana plus I am using an efficiency aspect. Enchants are firebolt and fireball.
I want to get meteor in the build to further take advantage of three curses. I could:

  1. Dump firebolt as one of my enchants, as firewall and firebolt the spell itself will cause burning on enemies, and replace it with meteor enchant.
  2. Dump firewall and use meteor as a skill instead.

Opinions or observations?

Slotting fire bolt on your skill bar is not optimal for the most part if you are not really focused on using the basic skills vampiric powers. Using it as a mana regen is even worse. If you really are having troubles with mana just use prodigy or since you are fire, go incendiary aspect.

For fire builds you need to synergize burning and direct damage if you can. Fireball alone if geared with the Endless Rage Staff and Illuminator gloves + three curses / elementalist aspects with Inferno can get you rolling! Blending in meteor in that mix would not be optimal unless you have infinite mana.

You should also take advantage of the defensive nodes that are associated with burning. This is a huge damage mitigation that could get you rolling even in T100s! Aim to get at least 40% DR from burning enemies. This should come from your paragon and gear.

Firebolt is in there for moonrise vampire power as well. Stacking AS and the MS bonus is nice and it works in conjunction with ESU’s boots

Are you aiming for NM 100? Lower content everything is almost viable.

I wouldn’t take Firebolt at higher tiers on my skill bar. Fireball should be enough to clear mobs.

If you really wanna use Meteor, put it on your enchant. Having Fireball and Meteor at the same time would result in a quick mana drain. Like I said Fireball should be enough and you won’t even need Meteor.

Like what Japok said, the unique staff and gloves are a staple among Fireball builds. I think I would keep the gloves as a minimum for Fireball.

yea I wanted to push into higher NM’s.

Level 91 and i just got my first pair of illuminator gloves to drop. I’ve had one ancestral unique staff drop and its damage was horrible.

At higher tiers ill have to replace firebolt with fire shield probably (or ice shield i guess). I havent gone past 50 yet so was just playing around. Do you keep firebolt on as an enchant?

Nope. I run Inferno and Firewall on my bar, and Fireball and Meteor on my enchant.

One thing that really helped me a lot in NM 100 is high % armor on Chest and Amulet.

I can’t have them on any other gear because they are all uniques lol.

Do you use devouring blaze and damage resist from burning enemies? Seeing as how its ridiculous fireball doesnt apply burning, my assumption is you use firewall for that.

I think I have Burn DR on my armor and Focus (can’t remember). My new amulets has Devouring Blaze but I would probably pick Endless Pyre , but I stuck with the one with % armor. I didn’t see much difference in clearing jobs at NM 100 with both skills but saw a big difference in survivability.

Dump fire bolt. it’s useless.
do not use devouring blaze ranks. not worth it, better get ranks of mastery skills for fire wall.
enchant with fire wall and fire ball to make enemies to explode and damage all nearby remaining ones.

whats your username in the game?

Id argue that firewall enchant is trash compared to just slotting it. The proc chance has to be burning which is lame. Meteor procs on anything even though lower. Having firewall slotted gives you 8 seconds of time to do lots of activities and better postioning of the firewall for DR on all enemies. Meteor isn’t great slotted since it takes to much effort to maximize positioning for efficiency. Better to just have them flying all over the place and not think about that.

I have similar observation. Putting Firewall as an enchant makes me wonder if it’s even triggering. You might as well not use it as an enchant.

For Meteor I find it more useful as an enchant. It’s funny how it’s more accurate than me using it on my skill bar. The positioning is indeed a hassle specially if you are playing on a controller.

Yeah meteor doesnt work with a controller well. The enchant is an aimbot, vastly superior.

I am not updated on Fireball in S2, previously I was running Hydra in place of Firewall (much less mana hungry and Summoned Hydra burns), on a paragon that was all fire damage (900-1000) and it was great, it might still work despite the changes

it triggers but not as often.
Is better to add meteor.

Will make this as a separate post but I just did this a while ago to show you fireball is enough and good for T100.
