At normal level - I’m getting my butt handed to me on a regular basis. I realize I have little clue of what I’m doing, but still. Most folks starting a game are at least as clueless.
In D3, I was upping the difficultly because it was too easy. Here I’d so very much like to lessen the difficulty.
I think he is serious and I doubt he’s the only one.
I’ve been playing Tier II until just now, but I’ve wiped repeatedly to bosses and I doubt I’m the only one. I am familiar with this type of game, including some of the boss mechanics that seem (maybe intentionally) similar to ones used in D3, but have much more difficulty with them here.
I doubt they’ll publish the stats but I expect the bosses are putting up some decent kill numbers.
That is literally precisely the game genre that I feel ARPGs/Diablo are designed for. It is what I was very much enjoying doing in D3 one day before this beta.
I am aware there are other game genres built around slow-pace, high-challenge, skill cap design etc., I even enjoy them myself from time to time, but it absolutely not what I expect out of Diablo / ARPG / forever-end-game type games.
I’d have to agree at times it feels like the difficulty is just not tuned correctly. When during a fight it feels like all you can do is run around and wait for your hydra to kill the boss. Or when a boss’s swing is so large you can’t run from it without using the evade jump and even if you do sometimes it hits anyways even though it doesn’t look like it hit.
There are times when I find myself asking when did I pay to play a bullet hell game as there is to much going on at once during a boss fight.
Don’t get me wrong I’m ok with some difficulty but so far my experience has me asking if it’s time to refund.
Diablo was never like that until Reaper of Souls released. Diablo 1 was difficult unless you duped/exploited. Most people online cheated with trainers because everything was client side.
Diablo 2 was very challenging on hell difficulty, but bots flooded the game with so much gear that people could buy a full set for $10 on ebay.
Barbs are quite weak, save for some skills, and the other classes also have subpar skills.
If you’re not a pro and happen to pick those skills, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Sure, but I’d argue D2’s growth and enduring popularity for two decades is all built on the easy “mass paving of screens at a time” while hoping for that next great drop, and not at all on the “repeated wipes while underpowered” early days which I expect make up a tiny sliver of total Diablo hours ever played and a small fraction of each individual player’s experience.
I see what you’re saying. We’re playing a very small portion of the game right now.
We’re missing like 3 entire TIERS of gear rarity in the beta, using low level gems, and have limited skill points/no paragon points. I expect we’ll get much more powerful as time goes on.
Level 10 was an early gear check playing Tier II for me. I’ve since found better gear and things are manageable, but a few times I’ve been just hanging on. Finally found a life regen ring for when out of combat so that helps a bit.
For clarification- I’m not talking trash mobs. I’m talking dungeon bosses. The higher level my character goes, the more likely I am to die. First 15 levels - piece of cake. Level 20, I’m getting the snot kicked out of me by the same critters.
