Fights like Ashava don't belong in Diablo

God, completely forgot about that move. Must have repressed the memories.

Yeah, those bosses were pretty much character killers if you weren’t properly prepared.

First time fighting Duriel I almost quit the game haha I really think the boss fights in Diablo 2 are dumb. You really can’t fight them properly till way down the road.

Its what made me buy Diablo 4 and the ultimate edition, lmfao!

Diablo has had 1 shot kill mechanics since the original, does nobody remember how hard the butcher slapped hams in D1? Most people ended up cheesing him instead of actually clearing him as intended.

High reward optional content should be harder, the loot from Ashava is too good for it to be free.

It should still be difficulty appropriate, both the fight and the reward.

Have you tried to strategy of running around like a chicken with its head cut off while also sucking down potions like they’re soda pop and taking pot shots at the big ugly worm?

Like, Duriel is pretty much impossible to beat on your own without twinking from another character.

Idk, started playing Diablo 2 and at that age I was clueless and managed somehow :woman_shrugging:

Bosses with repeatable, scripted mechanics should be in ALL RPG games.

Ashava is great and I can’t wait to see the other boss battles.

You mean it wasn’t intended for you to trap him behind some fencing and snipe him to death?

Then you’re a better player than I.

Stacking thawing potions always seems to do the trick.

I still remember haha I would literally guzzle a bunch of ice resist potions, portal in throw up a portal, die, and repeat haha I got better at it as time went on, but like that’s such a tedious unfun way to fight a boss.

I remember a classmate discovering the magic of Blood Golem after his skellies kept getting hosed (but not melted).

Also, same classmate then went back and did Duriel with Inferno.

For me the bosses got easier the higher the difficulty, cuz your character was actually equipped to fight them.

Absolutely and unequivocally true, not only because you had better gear, but also because, the more you played the game, the better understanding of the mechanics you have, so you know what is good gear and what is crap.

The multiplayer aspect definitely shouldnt be required. Just scale the boss down to 1 player, and give people the option to enter the area in a solo instance.
As for ‘1 wrong move’ that likely is just a gear issue and will fix itself. Monsters should not oneshot everyone, and that goes for Ashava too, but it is fine if they require players to have some defensive skills and items.
My Sorc could basically facetank Ashava last time, and my Barb could survive being hit by at least some of the attacks this time around. Didnt get hit by all the attacks, so dont know if there are some that would oneshot. But that was also while 5 lvls below the intended difficulty…

I would be fine with nerfing their rewards. Making them more of a thing you could do if you wanted to, and not because it was much more efficient to do it.

Indeed.

This is what Im talking about, Duriel was a brutal fight that was about bringing potions and corpse dragging him around that tiny room.

The Ashava fight isnt much different, just grander scale.

See that’s the thing. Duriel especially as a melee just felt unfair. With Ashava if you learn her pattern you can stay alive. Ashava I actually really enjoy.
