When I click PLAY on Diablo 4 I receive a Fenris Error.

I’ve verified game files and done reinstalls.
GPU: RTX 2080ti
Driver: 552.22
CPU: Intel i7-8700K

same, game is unplayable right now.

I’m getting tired of this game, searching on How to fix this Fenris Issue.

Check the support article below
Select Windows / Mac
Select Diablo IV from the drop down menu
Follow the instructions on that page

Then if you want someone to look at the most recent FenrisDebug.txt file, copy and paste the entirety of the .txt file to a new pastebin.

pastebin.com
At the bottom hit Create New Paste
Then share the pastebin link back here
You can share links with ` on each side of the link (before and after).

Fenris Error - Pastebin.com

My Hardware: NZXT Custom PC, MSI-MS-7D89 MB, 96GB GSkill DDR5-6800 RAM, GigaByte RTX-4090 24 GB GDDR6X, WD-BLack Sn850x 4TB Gen-5 SSD.

I have been struggling with the Fenris error too since patch v1.50. I have posted previously and shared what I have learned troubleshooting, and viewing the crash logs, and believe I solved my issues. When I delete the “LocalPrefs.txt” (Documents\Diablo IV) a new file is created upon launch with all the advanced video settings (ie… Ray Tracing, HDR, Nvidia DLSS, etc.) related to the RTX 4090 capabilities are disabled. It does make my system stable but all the money I spent to use these advanced settings was not usable.

Per the Fenris logs, I was suffering from an “Out of Memory” error. These logs (FenrisDebug.txt) are located in the Diablo IV game directory. Look for the letter “E” at the beginning of each line which believe means error. There are other letters such as “W” for warning and “I” for information. Just assuming… that is how I discovered the “Out of Memory” error. In my research, I came across a Reddit post by “IronTouch” where they suggested modifying an NVIDIA-Control Panel Global Setting.

This is what he posted.

Putting this here in case anyone finds it from Googling. I had the same issue, also with a beast of a computer and an RTX 4090. Here’s how to solve it:

  1. Go to the Nvidia Control Panel
  2. Go to 3D Settings → Manage 3D settings
  3. In the Global Settings, scroll down till you find “Shader Cache Size”
  4. Switch it from “Driver Default” to “100 Gb”
  5. Click Apply
  6. Restart your computer (important, it still crashes until you do this)

Note, it might work with the “Unlimited” Shader Cache size, I didn’t try it. It also might work with just having Grounded with specific Program Settings, rather than changing the global. I didn’t try that either. But I can say that this worked for me.

Thankfully I located this post and applied the suggested “Global” setting and I am pleased to report I have Ray Tracing, DLSS Frame Generation, NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency, everything at Ultra max-settings, HDR, HDR, enabled, and Vertical Sync and Peripheral Lighting off.

I am pleased to report I have not seen a crash since. I hope this helps…good luck.
