Hello Blizzard.
Just an average schmuck chiming in to give some player feedback. I suppose you have to take this forum with a grain of salt, given that the game has only been out a couple weeks and many players aren’t max level with BIS gear, BUT:
-
Most of the spells seem futile outside of Ice Shards
-
Frozen Orb is a huge disappointment
-
Fire is… uh?
-
I’m good with being squishy, but dying to off-screen arrows is getting tiresome
-
Our boss damage is awesome and annoying; being tied to stagger really isn’t fun for “The Butcher” or anything that can’t be CC’d. On the other hand, when you do stagger or CC something, it’s pretty cool.
-
This class does not feel, in any way, shape, or form, like something you can “play your way.” As far as I’m concerned, it’s Ice Shards/ Deep Freeze and Ice Shards/ Blizzard or bust
-
Primal Bascinet transmog is graphically bugged (the mask is sticky to where your horse was after dismounting)
Some positives:
-
The control is fun, but again, frustrating for mobs that can’t be CC’d (darn near impossible for things like The Butcher)
-
Mobility is alright
-
Rainment is cool
-
Damage with Ice Shards is good
-
Enchantments are a cool mechanic
-
Super fast group mob killing
Again, this is just average-Joe feedback. I mostly run Tier ~45 NM dungeons with a buddy on his Rogue at approximately the same level. I do a heckuva lot more dying to random silliness. I imagine this class would be a lot more frustrating as a solo experience at this level.
Thank you.

Level 78 sorcerer here & not using one of the two copy paste builds that take focus thanks to streamers and youtubers.
I don’t believe the build I’m using is the best possible sorc or class build, but its very viable, strong & fun to play both solo and in groups.
I use arc lash with high crit strike and high attack speed bonuses through aspects and affixes while using an 819+25 staff. I hit harder and faster than your typical wand combo using these stat boosts. (Staff also has +186 INT and +63 ALL stat as I aim for high INT)
I also have big focus on lightning stun triggers, frost nova freeze/vulnerable, raiment armor teleports, and daze/immobilize lucky hit (through fists of fate ancestral unique gloves). This gives me a ton of CC to go along with my damage which only makes my damage even higher. I also stagger bosses in seconds fairly easily which is nice but not necessary to apply damage.
Using unstable currents trigger aspect to get constant free abilities without using your ult is great with such high attack speed and crit chance, plus the aspect chance to double trigger unstable currents makes it feel like your entire screen can become a fireworks display of lightning damage at any moment.
I feel somewhat squishy at times but my abilities/aspect constantly applying barriers to my health bar means I rarely have moments that my incredibly rapid damage ticks/constant CC availability cannot keep me in a comfortable in a fight for both PvP and PvE.
In PvP zones I have multi killed groups of people up to 10 levels higher than me by using a higher movement speed stat to engage and disengage while using teleport and crowd control effects to keep applying damage and not allow them to apply damage. Very entertaining.
I absolutely believe lightning/ice sorc can be built in ways which make the most of those two elements but I do not see many people at all recognising how to do that, so without giving you the entire build I’ve made stat for stat I’ll just say that there are definitely ways to make this class shine.

Hey, glad you’re having fun dude. I’m not a sky is falling sort of fellow, but I’d be curious to hear what sort of NM content you’re pushing.
I’ve seen very little out of the sorceress beyond NM 20. Practically everyone I see has switched over to one of the melee classes.
The highest I got to 2 days ago was a 35 without really grinding to keep raising the tier, and I felt like the only thing limiting me from jumping up a few was my paragon board & glyphs not being geared towards it as much as it should be but again that’s fine since I am not trying to race to the top of the nightmare leaderboards.
I’ve also got a helm/leggings that aren’t optimised for it as well as they could be but at this item power its hard to find replacements that do what you’re looking for without taking a key piece of your overall build direction away, so it’s also not something I’m rushing myself to find just for the sake of higher nightmare dungeons considering everything else I do works fine.
My best guess is that if I had a few of these minor optimisations I’d be able to crack 40-45 in short time (at least before like level 85 or so)

Solo 86 sorc here, playing a similar build as CrazyPurple but without the Fists of Fate and using wand/focus instead. Can comfortably run low 40’s NM, not planning on pushing past that until I can replace my Raiment with an Ancestral version.
Probably not as squishy as CrazyPurple as I have a fair bit of Damage Reduction on my gear - I can stand toe-to-toe with the Butcher and trade hits comfortably, rotating through my barriers. Does take me a little longer, but my survivability as a solo is paramount for me.
Am I planning on playing this class more when I hit 100? Waiting to see on what the next few patches bring, would like a bit more DPS and maybe give us a third enchantment slot as well and my character will probably be in a great place. Having fun playing it for now, at the very least.
