Feedback (incl. bugs)

Dear Blizzard devs,

Hardware: RTX 4080, i5-13600K, 64 ram, nvme, LG C2 (true HDR 4k 120Hz gsync)

Visuals

  • HDR support

    • With and without HDR enabled brightness looks off - the dark areas are overexposed
    • Where things should be black they’re greyish instead like on a non-HDR monitor
    • I was not able to tune brightness via ingame settings to make the game have a quality look. I recommend getting a decent HDR display and checking out how Destiny 2, Jedi Fallen Order, Returnal and other top games with HDR support look like for reference
    • No SDR UI brightness / HDR brightness separation in settings like in other games with HDR support
  • Textures are too discoloured

  • Barely managed to find one passable hair style

  • Camera angle is now almost as bad as in PoE, headache to look at

  • Camera zoom level is too close for comfort (just like it’s too close in D3 and in PoE). You aren’t doing the game any favours with fixing it like that, people will still use memory editing to zoom out a bit further to be able to enjoy the game, you’re just making it harder for them

  • Health/Mana UI orbs aren’t visually pleasing, they’ve got this Warhammer 40K look saying “everything here is ugly”

  • Terrain render sometimes starts lagging and overlapping onto itself (kind of like screen tearing but not really)

    • With in-game vsync both on and off, although it’s locked to Fast in nvidia control panel
  • Light reflections on the ground are too sharp, look out of place and distracting - again, reminds of the rough PoE visual style that I strongly dislike

  • Object pop-in, although rare, is still noticable

Stability

  • Got disconnected mid-dungeon

    • After that, hitting “Start Game” leads to a timeout error every time and the background screen is black instead of showing your character
    • My friend who was in the party and in the same country as I am is still playing fine (no, my home internet doesn’t suck)
    • Restarted the game, now the queue is 82 minutes
  • 80 minute login queue is unprofessional. Amazon, Google, Netflix and many other services, including smaller ones, have much higher traffic than Diablo 4 does, yet their response time is instantaneous

  • Frequent visual stutters

  • Loading screens kinda suck:

    • Crossing invisible lines make you desync and thrown back a short distance like when leaving Kyov
    • Artificial slowdown through climbing to hide loading screens
    • Loading time for minidungeons and getting back into the world feels too long, it was instanteneous in D3
    • Loading time on waypoint teleports around 30 seconds is too long

Immersion / Atmosphere

  • Lilith’s face in cutscenes is nothing like what it was in the By Three They Come cinematic. She looks too meek and doesn’t have this sinister and powerful feeling like in the cinematic. Also her voice sounds bland and unintresting.

  • Lack of Arcane magic school is disappointing; not all people who like magic like elemental magic

  • Quests / dialogues are boring. But to be fair, it’s like that in most of other games. Diablo can’t be expected to be Witcher 3, or Dragon Age, or Mass Effect, or Shadowrun, or many other awesome RPG games with amazing dialogues and story, right? It’s just a hack and slasher.

  • Everything’s about the game is too depressing: discoloured textures, bleak snow everywhere, music, bugs, lack of eyecandy with the sorc spells

    • Snow can actually look pretty and cheerful, but in D4 it’s as exciting as dry mud on boot soles
  • I never though that would happen, especially after spending 270 EUR on buying the game and gifting copies to my friends so they could play too, but I had to force myself playing the game. Eventually even that ran out and I just Alt+F4’d around level 15

UI

  • Wall clock in the top/right corner isn’t locale-aware: shouldn’t be am/pm on locales that aren’t am/pm

  • “CLEAR COMPLETE” covers too much of the already lacking vertical space, significantly reducing your combat sight in fight while the enemies are still around

  • Minimap icons aren’t properly pinned down and are shifting pixels while the character is on the move

Unsorted

  • Lack of teleportation at the end of a dungeon is quite time wasting

  • Uninteractable golden light chest in Halls of Knowledge

  • Teleporting (T key) to Kyov out of Light’s Eye doesn’t work - after the black screen transition you’re back in Light’s Eye, which makes it impossible to clean up your inventory

  • Background music sometimes stutters

  • Can’t extract Aspects because the price is too high, which hinders experimentation which leads to game being less fun

  • Multiplayer synergy is bad as other player skills are moving the enemies around making it hard and annoying to target them in melee (I think Barb skills are to blame)

  • Inconsistent world theme: one moment you’re fighting Slav-named Volkodlak and the next moment a Storm Warg. Looks really out of place and inconsistent.

I thought Lilith came across really well in the intro, hyper sinister villains are a joke in almost any genre or medium, she appeared powerful, inquisitive and like everything had gone exactly as expected.
First time in a long time i was actually interested in the bad guy / girl, Diablo in D3 was a child throwing a tantrum in comparison.
Cool calm collected and manipulative, thats some great villain imo excited to see when Lilith gets ticked off.

It’s on your Action Wheel. “Leave Dungeon” teleports you back to the entrance

I agree the HDR (or at least the global “make the whole screen look unnecessarily fogged up in every scene” filter) look really bad. It’s frustrating having HDR OLED looking like it’s got super aggressive IPS glow.

Nice, that’ll save me some time, thanks.

Exactly.

I wish there was an option that auto skips all dialogue. Blizzard dialogue across all games made in the past 10 years is just painful in this area. Voice acting and dialogue scripts have to be the weakest aspect of the company.
It always sounds like young women reading to toddlers, or a saturday morning cartoon villain. Hitting escape or holding the button down (never know which skip mechanic you’ll get) gets so old. Just have an auto skip option. I do not care at all about these people babbling. I’ll go look up a tl;dr lore one day if I’m interested.

I would suggest using this to submit feedback. I know it says “BUG” all over it, which is a detail for feedback in itself. (Yes, I submitted that as feedback) You can post it here, but just be aware that DEVs are not vary active on the forums and have something in place in-game to report this stuff.

Thank you for being a useful beta tester though and not just slangin hate on the forums. I hope we get a fantastic game Jun 6.

Suggestion: More character customization - hair, facial hair, jewelry
Suggestion: In game barbershop to change character customization
Suggestion: A alternative toggle on/off overlay minimap as you progress ala Diablo 2
Suggestion: Edit UI layout

I tried listening to everything at first, but yeah, it’s all rubbish so I ended up skipping everything.
