We don’t need a horse to get around the map when we have already discovered everything. We just need fast travelling to dungeons we have already visited.
Instead of this wasting time running from waypoint to dungeon just allow fast travel to already discovered dungeons. Allow us to use our nightmare sigils or whatever during the fast travel menu interaction.
It’s an arbitrary time gate that makes no sense in a game like this. It’s something that is done in mobile games to sell items that can eliminate that time gate. It’s not fun, interesting, or immersive to have to travel to the closest way point to get to a dungeon.
The idea is to have random things tempt you on the way. A lot of reviews talked about that being a fun part of the game. they said the horse is great though at reducing travel time.
Forced travel time is pointless. As I said, it’s just a time gate and it’s to slow down farming. Which is what players actually want to do. It’s arbitrarily injected into the model to increase longevity but in reality it will just cause players to become fatigued faster from spending so much time traveling.
Even in DnD travelling typically isn’t the most interesting part of the game and often it’s skipped to get to the encounters. You don’t sit in a wagon for a literal three real time days traveling down the Triboar Trail on your way to Phandalin.
People will get sick of running to nightmare dungeons very quickly.
I hated it in closed beta and was hoping they’d add a portal or map device kind of system for sigils.
Streamers are already talking about group strategies of trying to mass keys of the same dungeon for efficiency so you don’t have to deal with travel time. My guess is we’ll have dungeon fast travel S1 or S2. The level of complaints compared to people who enjoy the scenic route is going to very heavily favor players wanting faster dungeon travel.
D3 rifts were random maps you had no control over.
You also WP to specific farming locations in D2.
You’ll leave town when you’re doing hell tides, world bosses and farming events.
When you’re farming dungeons, you’re farming dungeons. Walking to them doesn’t make it better.
Dungeons aren’t the only activity in the game. When you ARE doing dungeons, you’re not interested in the travel time to each dungeon. It’s a waste of your time.
You can already do that asking in chat for someone already at the boss to invite you so you can port to them.
World bosses are also on a timer, so it’s annoying to have to drop what you’re doing, travel to it, do it and travel back.
Actually, the moment you add a convenience thats ten billion times better than a traditional route, people will never look back. Maybe one or two out of hundred.
I really wish they don’t allow porting to DG from Town. But thats just me, the old fasioned walk/run/mount traveler.
After playing the beta. I don’t think there really is much dynamic content. If I am doing dungeon runs then I am just doing dungeon runs and I am avoiding everything else. If I want to go explore and look for whispering chests or orbeez or whatever they are called, then I am doing that.
I just don’t understand why we can’t streamline our gameplay in better way. There is just so much downtime between dungeons because of having to travel. Plus if I am traveling all over the map to different dungeons I really don’t want to spend half my game time just traveling on horse back. I am not immersed by arbitrary tediousness. Honestly, it’s the one thing that makes me just go do something else that respects my time.
The goal seems to be in breaking us out of that monotonous routine and pushing for more exploration and dynamic gameplay…
Maybe on your way to that dungeon you discover: ︎ Wandering Legendary Merchant ︎ Treasure Goblin ︎ Random Event ︎ Rare Elite(s) ︎ Rare Ores / Plants
(Likely many more planned)
This is great and refreshing for the series, IMO. Why do we always have to go for “the most efficient” robotic approach? (I’m guilty of it too). Just my inflated .25 cents.
The reason we choose the most efficient path is because of efficiency. All things work on economics. We have a limited time in this world and we prefer to forego tedious behavior to receive the rewards.
As I said, when I am doing Dungeons. I just want to do dungeons. I won’t be looking or doing anything else. So why even force me to waste my time?
It’s not like you have to use it if you don’t want too. If you perfect to walk because the horse is too fast for you, that is an option. Even Windwaker, which was incredibly tedious, allowed you to fast travel practically anywhere after getting the song and windwaker had a lot more dynamic events that Diablo 4 will.
