Corpses are in melee range. Or at least for CE to do dmg, they must be. So why an aspect changing a skill that is used to get safely out of melee and AOE, making you get into melee/AOE. It’s only 3 seconds and makes you slower. So by the time you explode a corpse, it expires and you get 1 shotted. And you can’t cast during the 3 seconds. It’s pretty wonky and badly designed. I’ve tried some different ways to use it and feel it just doesn’t flow.
Explosive mist feels like it should be on the skill tree as an option for bloodmist, not an actual aspect slot.
That said, it works well with “infimist” shadow builds where you are able to cycle this spell with CDR over and over again. Also using this in combination with the aspect that gives you .5% armor per hit allows you to have windows of extreme tankiness.
I have near max CDR and high lucky hit. +3 macabre. I use bone storm, tendrils, prison, decrepify, BCE with Mendeln. I tried replacing BCE with mist, but I find I die more trying to explode corpses than if I just try to keep at range with bone prison. That time in between mists all it takes, when you need to refresh decrepify and prison or get unlucky with lucky hit. I can get flesh eater faster with BCE. And explosive mist will cause me to lose scent of death DR inside suppressor bubbles. I just feel it doesn’t really have a good synergy with anything.
you dont really need to use mist/BCE offensively with mendeln and prison anyway… you just prison and tendril the whole screen inside of it for a quick death. you can use it offensively, but the damage is irrelevant for that build and the lucky hit chance is trash anyway. really, mist is for survivability more than it is for the offensive aspect of ghazzy’s build. it just gives you the flexibility to use it for corpse dots if you want. unless you’re trying to do super high nightmares, nothing in 50-60 is surviving bone prison
If you use Howl From Beyond, you can use the mist to get out of melee without losing on BCE. But usually, it’s not too much of a problem with shielded bone storm and a tendril coming right up. Worst case scenario, the mist shouldn’t be too far from being up again with Decrepify (speaking from an Infinimist point of view)
problem with howl from below is it’s a wasted aspect and you lose crit for a build that doesnt need pool damage anyway
What level NM dungeons is this an issue for you? I don’t really have any issues with explosive mist but I am using Blood Soaked and Ghostwalker’s too so I am pretty fast. And am just on level 50-56 NM dungeons. Also using BCE. I don’t think that regular CE is doing enough damage to warrant using Explosive Mist with it but with BCE it can destroy big packs of mobs.
Yea, I’m clearing 50s without much trouble. Usually only die to ground AOE I didn’t see under miasma, corpses, mobs, prison, etc until too late. Trying to push into 60s, but seems nearly impossible without mist. Seeing a lot more elites that instantly escape prison, are fast, and stun/freeze. Don’t know if it’s bad luck or if those affixes are more common the higher you go. Hard counters are bad. Having checks that players have a reasonable amount of damage mitigation is good. Having checks that you must be immune is not good. And it should be fairly easy to balance. Suppressor, fast, teleport, fire affixes should reduce monster damage. Fast and teleport affixes should also reduce monster DR. Then you don’t end up with Suppressor, fire, fast elites that ignore your prison and minions and you can’t do much about it other than blood mist. You can’t want build diversity, but then say let’s add elites where skill A doesn’t work at all. You can reduce the duration or effect, but you can’t just make skills unusable. Or if the monster is immune to a skill, it should come at a cost to the monsters offensive or defensive abilities. So teleport would cause some negative effect if monster is CC’d
the game is too insta kill or get insta killed- it’s not really dynamic combat and forces very specific playstyles, for the most part. the whole crowd control situation mandates unbreakable and since necro has only one, you basically lose a skillslot for any build that you want to push content with (bad design and balance)
If I am using 3 skill slots that CC, all 3 should never be completely negated. And a minion skill where minions are completely ignored and the monster just goes straight at me from off screen, right past 11 minions then freezes me for 5 seconds.
Blizzard: Oh you spec’d 4 ways to keep monsters off of you? Okay, here is teleport/fast/unstoppable and freeze/stun. Just spec our favored meta bone spear that is the only way we wanted you to play and 1 shot the elite before it gets to you and takes no skill or gear and is no fun.
Explosive mist is great for Blood builds
Yes it hits like a truck with blood spec, i wonder… sacrifice blood infinimist build, using bone prison to refresh mist and apply constant vuln? Does drain vitality apply fortitude when in mist form?
