It’s because of the holiday event, they want you to know there’s stuff for it for sale.
Yep. They also have had a problem since the season began where the wardrobe is constantly informing me there are new cosmetic unlocks to check out, but when I go to the wardrobe none of the new items have the icon to let me know which ones they are. Weird how many things break and break again in this game. 
Well, to be fair, they revamped the entire wardrobe / customization UI with this season, combining all of them into something you can access from anywhere.
Are the exclamation diamonds annoying to see? Sure. But it’s like white noise after a while, and I’m hardly bothered by them anymore. Got better things to spend my energy on. It’s like the annoying red flag sale icon … I hate seeing it … but after a year I’ve given up on letting it live rent free in my head.

It’s more than annoying. Seeing the indicator all the time, you can’t ever be alerted again that there’s actually something new. It’s a “boy who cried wolf” situation.

I had the same annoyance. Check the “Bundles” tab. That’s where the new stuff is.
