Evident sources suggest level increase and paragon rework for VoH similar to that of D3 paragon level system

Source : Level 60 New Level Cap and Incoming Number Squish? - Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred - Wowhead News

I already made a post regarding stat squish so won’t talk about that here.

So from the spiritborn reveal game play the streamers were invite to Blizz HQ and played the test build, more and more clues have been spotted by editors and streamers for clues for upcoming VoH expansion. Not much was talked about or released officially aside from Spiritborn class itself. So these are information related to character progression in VoH.

Direct quote from WoWhead below,

Disclaimer from Wowhead - Keep in mind that this is speculation based on information found in the Spiritborn playtest gameplay footage and Blizzard’s recent Spiritborn Inside the Game video. Everything presented below is subject to change!

    • Just like in Diablo 3, the Paragon system in Vessel of Hatred seems to become a separate system once again, meaning that base levels and Paragon levels are two different things. In essence, we would have a regular level cap at 60 and a separate Paragon cap.
    • Right now, each regular level in Diablo 4 from Level 50 on rewards you with a total of 4 Paragon points, so 1 point each 25% of a level. We haven’t found these 25% increments in Vessel of Hatred’s user interface (normally indicated by four small diamonds in the experience bar). This could also indicate that Paragon levels are again tied to normal “level-ups” - like in Diablo 3.

I can’t remember what the paragon system was like in D3 as it has been too long ago since I played it. But I knew it was infinite progression. I don’t see that being carried to D4 but there seems to be a good chance that in VoH the D3 paragon system will be adapted to use.

Thoughts guys ?

As I said in some other threads, I hope this is true for several reasons:

  1. Separating paragon and levels means that they can get you to end game content while still giving a level up experience. Since the paragon system itself is way more interesting and powerful than D3, this won’t feel like D3’s boring tiny increments.
  2. Separating paragon and levels means that people won’t need to rush to max paragon, which means that they can have the XP needed for each paragon level scale faster and end up being much higher, gradually slowing progression over 200 paragon levels. That will feel far more satisfying than the same slowed progression over 100 levels, because all the other endgame systems will already be online.
  3. I’d been hoping that they would remake the leveling to 100 in some way that allowed it to slow down dramatically without impacting endgame. This is really the only way to do that.
  4. This allows them to rebalance the 1-60 play so that stats don’t have to scale so wildly to always feel like they are going up

I hope that they still keep paragon capped at about the same number of points and that they still keep 1-60 leveling and the first 100 or paragon points at the same speed.

I wonder what this conversion (if it happens) would look like for current level 100 characters.

regardless of what happens, it seems inevitable that Mr. RF and the game director will do everything they can to ensure that Diablo 4 is a “copy” of Diablo 3, because for them it’s easier and in their minds it’s better. but the game needs to have a limit to the character’s progression, it doesn’t make any sense to paint the entire paragon picture. we have to have a limit and we must optimize the build within it, for the love of God, why level infinity and 16 more levels of difficulty where the only thing that increases is the enemies’ HP and damage!?

The paragon change would be a system change I think. Which means, it will also change the base game as well.

If they are indeed changing it to be more like D3, then 1 good thing comes out of that.

Levelling alts.

Once you hit level 60 on 1 character (that season), you unlock paragon across your entire seasonal account, and any paragon you earn is unlocked across your characters.

This way you can cap your paragon (225+ points or whatever the new cap would be), then create your alt, immediately fill up your paragon board, and then blast your way to 60.
