Everything is Mediocre

Honestly, the worst thing about Items in D4 is they’ve homogenized the functions of items so that they all suck. What made Diablo 2 so addictive is eventually finding that ONE ITEM that lets you do something incredibly cool in the game and finding it gave you that thrill of discovery. And then your char took a massive jump in some aspect of the game which in itself was super satisfying.

There is none of that in D4. No one item is spectacularly good. There are too many downsides to each item for anything to be outright incredible. Each item is a “meh” or “that’s cool” at BEST. Blizzard doesn’t want anything to be spectacularly good. You can see the trend in D3, it was more about completing a build, maybe you got a better version of an item to make your build better and that was fun. In D4 they’ve taken the concept of watering items down even further.

In Diablo 4 you find a new item w a good aspect, but now you have to juggle around this piece, and imprint that piece, damn but I don’t have pants that are good etc etc, but I need to keep that aspect etc etc. All for +20% crit damage WHEN you have a Lucky hit AND the mob is Vulnerable AND only with XYZ skill. No huge jumps or changes to your gameplay, it’s just a small percentage better than it was before.

Diablo 4 will peak for one maybe two seasons (I doubt 2) and then you’ll see a massive drop. No one wants to do that campaign and grind to 100 again bcz no one wants to build up their % of a % character again so they can be at the the peak of mediocrity. There’s no incentive bcz all the items are horrible.

Blizzard has literally taken the best and most addictive aspect of the Diablo series and homogenized it into mediocrity. Somehow Blizzard has introduced this weird communist aspect into into their games: Instead of there being a top % of ppl with incredible items and builds, everyone sucks equally and everyone is only a % of a % better than anyone else.

Pure loss, this game will be a failure as it currently sits.

i disagree that everything is the same.

rogues and top level ww barbs, etc with all their legendaries are light years ahead of most other builds even with the nerfs.

the mediocrity of the items and the endless comparing of slightly different pants is a separate issue.

I want to agree with you but all of the problems with Diablo 4 are from braindead and spineless content creators absolutely flooding the community with terrible content. Play the game, if you put together your build right you’re going to have a good time.

I do believe the itemization is sub-par, but I play PoE leagues for the build complexity. Diablo 4 is just a feel good dopamine incubator. They could at least give players more control over their builds instead of baked in itemization but what do you really expect from Blizzard at this point.

All items are 4 affixes that individually roll from an item-based bucket instead of an affix/suffix system that lets you expect certain affixes to appear together. Uniques are mostly the same thing, and some of them roll usless stats, like cold resistance.

It’s boring.

Items are locked at the level you find them, so forget building a twinked char for leveling

Sadly we are just going to be in the same boat as D3 on launch. Waiting for a RoS style relaunch to add the band-aid to make the game at least somewhat enjoyable.

nice to see baby can count LOL

this is true. there’s no real item hunt in d4. like imagine finding a Shako in Diablo 2 while leveling your first character during the ladder reset. or getting that stone of jordan or finding those high runes or that amazing base for your future runeword.

items in diablo 2 feel real. they have character. they are a thing.

diablo 4’s items feel like they’re just numbers on a spreadsheet. no character. no soul. no depth. almost every item you ever find in diablo 4 is almost always something you’re just gonna replace as soon as you level up. it’s not exciting or memorable. it’s just another soulless, lifeless part of the game.

Shill is defending diablo 4. It hurts itself in its confusion.

If I remember correctly when D3 came out, the devs intent was to make rare items be the best items in the game and Uniques were purposely garbage. That idea got thrown out and they started making better items. I’m hoping the same thing happens here. They put a lot of effort into this game, but it feels pretty hollow somehow. I mean Diablo isnt even in the game story.

At least there isn’t a real money auction house.

Yup D3 started out with the same boring builder/spender system along with the lackluster gear.

Idk, finding Temerity for example was pretty fun and game changing for me. Adding that additional % dmg when barrier active felt good

Or finding out that crit spawns dark shroud and you can free your skill slot now for sth better.

I really think that whatever felt good in the past is still in the game and what actually ruins it is 10000000 guides and content creators.
I haven’t followed any of that, been playing “my own” build, just learning the game and tbh I’m having a lot of fun

I have a pic I took of like 12 rares that dropped all in one spot. I mean, there’s no excitement to get items anymore, and with limited inventory and stash space I basically don’t even bother picking up anything unless it’s at least a legendary item. I could take a town portal but it’s really just a waste of my time and I often disconnect when I use them anyway.

Well said OP. Well said. I agree with everything.

This can be fixed it they remove legendary powers from itens to paragon board and add proper unique items

Its best to put Donut on ignore, dude just posts childish takes constantly trying to get a rise out of people.
