First time playing Diablo, when the first season arrived I stopped playing. Because it demotivated me to have to create a new character to play the new content. I want to play again, but I don’t want to have to create a new character every 4 months. How do you do it? Every 4 months they start from 0? Doesn’t that discourage you or is it just me?
seasons are 3 months, not 4 months. and yes in order to play seasons you have to create a new character.
no it doesn’t demotivate me, actually seasons are quite fun
Thats the idea of seasons, that everyone starts on an even playing field in large part because of leaderboards, which this game’s seasons do not have yet. In D2R/D3 the idea of seasons at first didn’t sound appealing to me, however, when i started to play it i actually liked it because it kept the game fresh with the new season features and rewards. There’s literally no reason not to play seasons.
Many reasons to skip seasons.
Dont have enough time to dedicate to season
All frens chose eternal
Dont like restarting with nothing
I like that they add new content every season, and new things. But creating a character from 0 and leveling up again, looking for weapons and armor again. It’s nice that I can skip the main campaign. But starting from 0 with another character every 3 months, I still can’t understand that. For example, now I want to play, but in a few weeks another season is coming, so I feel that it would be a waste of time to create another character right now if in January I will have to create another one.
I’d say it more or less comes down to playing older ARPG’s. As veterans of the genre, those who have played them extensively know all the ins and outs of the games. D4 honestly doesn’t add anything to the genre either, at least not yet, if anything it’s lacking in several categories. Regardless, those of us who have come from the older genres typically will look forward to new content, starting over, and repeating the process.
Older ARPGs did take longer to start receiving Seasons/Ladders/Leagues though, which gave the player base more time with the base game, in turn it made the player base yearn for more content, even if it meant starting over.
D4 took a much faster approach. They wanted to get the game out, and get Seasons started right away, and I would say this was more or less a corporate decision so they could start making money. First through the sales, and secondly through battle passes and cosmetics. The game has of course suffered because of this decision, and here we are. Some people just don’t feel comfortable starting over after working hard on a character, which is completely understandable. Meanwhile others can’t wait to start over because they are bored with the current content and just want a fresh start with new content.
You can always play on Eternal if you wish, obviously with less content, or you can always try another game out that doesn’t force you to make a new character for new content when a new season comes out. As long as you’re enjoying yourself, that’s all that matters. If you aren’t enjoying yourself, don’t force yourself into doing something you don’t want to.
0 to 80 is arguably more fun and entertaining than running around at level 100 with little room to grow doing endless NMD’s and Helltides. (AoZ aside, which most won’t make it to).
It doesn’t bother me, no. It gives me a reason to try the other classes because I usually just stick with one forever. If I have the option to keep playing the same character, then I’ll do that. But that’s not allowed so why not try the others.
Like someone else said, I also enjoyed the road to the top more than the actual top.
Depends how much casual are you. If you play 1-2 hour per week I understand your point.
If you play 1-2 hour per day its really not a big deal… You can hit 100 in two weeks with really semi-casual gaming.
I would get bored in few days if i play seasson with geared 100 char
yep, but each season you can change the character you will play. For example, at S2 I’ve played a rogue and a fire sorcerer, but at S3 I plan to play a werewolf druid and maybe a blood necro.
With every season comes a fresh gameplay mechanic, flipping the script like a gamer on their fifth energy drink. Let’s just pray it’s not a ‘what were they thinking?’ moment like the good, old, cringe-worthy season 1.
Every season should I create a new character?
Yeah, at the end of the season the old chars remain in eternal
Are you saying you don’t like playing different coloured Helltides every 3 months ?
What’s wrong with you ? The problem is you may have too many braincells.
Luckily for you, you don’t have to. You can play with your existing characters on the eternal realm. You won’t be able to play with any of the seasonal themes though, and the special events, like this midwinter nonsense, is usually just seasonal too, so you will miss out on that.
But if you are ok with that then you can continue to play on eternal to your heart’s content. Not a problem.
It’s actually the other way round, every season you Delete your old characters to have enough slots for the new season
It does suck to have spent tons of hours grinding, just to have your season toon and all of the items go to the eternal graveyard. They could just increase the level/paragon cap another 25 or 50 points and exclude those toons from the ladder race. Which is pretty much only a race for the 1% live streamers.
Yes, this is meant for people who like doing stuff like playing games.
