Evaluating loot is exhausting to the point I often just log out

I admit I dislike D4’s itemization. But I’m really trying to open up to it. Practically every piece of rare+ gear can be a potential upgrade. The in-game comparison system is useless. I’ll get a full bag of rares and legendaries then just log out until I feel like sifting through all the various affixes to determine which are actually an improvement. I really appreciate D4’s attempt at build diversity. But wow is it just exhausting sifting through every single piece of gear to compare them.

Is it better at end-game? I’m mid 50s on World Tier 3 and just finding it mind-numbingly boring and exhausting with gear upgrades. Nevermind the fact that once you do upgrade, you never really feel any stronger with the level scaling.

How are you all managing this? A majority of the time I just mass desconstruct everything because it’s way to tedious evaluating every potential piece of gear.

I had the same feeling. Couldn’t do it anymore at 53. Loot is just too boring and the itemization is super-bad.

I can check and clear entire stash in just a minute. Get good, you should only be looking for a few solid stats pure item to even consider giving it a closer look. You lack direction.

I miss the good old days when itemization was simple and easy to understand. Take Super Mario Brothers for example. Mushroom makes you big, flower makes you shoot fireballs, star makes you invincible. Those were the days. Now we gotta manage things like damage bonuses and damage reduction types… phew! I get tuckered out just thinking about all that boring complexity. It just makes me wanna log right out and go play something more my speed, like Solitaire.

they dont even order the affixes consistently (i.e. resistances displayed before anything else, then skill enhancements, damages, life, etc… from top to bottom)

not sure why the ui team didn’t do this…

I agree.

Theyve made it ridiculous.

I dont know if im doing good or not. Wait for all the white knights crying that its fine. GUYS we have 8 to 5 jobs, we dont wanna spreadsheet our characters!

I just equip things and hover over a spell to see if the damage goes up or down. It’s pretty amusing how things that don’t look like an upgrade at all actually is one. I don’t know who designed it but they need to be banned from creating loot systems in the future.

Oh shut up mate. Its not that easy for everyone. You might have a mind that can decrypt this code but most of us just wanting to pummel demons aint got the capacity to spreadsheet it all out and look and see if that NEW and SHINY drop is actually good or terrible.

loot is not that hard to check

vuln - check
crit - check
resource - check
cooldown reduc - check
skills lvl - check

if none of that, automatically trash item.

however with that being said, the loot in this game is pretty underwhelming with doggarbanzo crafting and im not a big fan of only 4 affixes and no prefix/suffix system.

another issue is all these “rare” items on the ground i have to pick up an entire inventory per run because every item is a potential best in slot but 99.99% are instant trash and id like to have a loot filter to hide things like sacred items on the ground. Sure they say sacred but when there are 6 items on the floor all with long yellow text, you have to fully read and pay attention to not pick up non ancestral items.

I wouldn’t even have a problem with spreadsheeting but i fall asleep and i’m questioning my life choices looking at every loot piece that drops in this game. Just so boring and uninspired.

Stop being an idiot. My build wants Bone Skills and Crit for Bone Skills.

Your quick little smart checklist that made you feel good means nothing to me. Vuln yes, CD red no, resource no…

Pick one main stat that you MUST have from each item slot. You can eliminate 90% of your loot at just a glance. Space bar to mark as junk if its nor there. It does get tedious housekeeping the stash though.
Aspect rolls should be close to max to consider further.

It takes time but you get better and faster at evaluating the rare items.
I look for the top two and if it’s not there, I salvage. Otherwise, it goes in the chest to look at later. I don’t dwell too much on an item.

But you should still have a “little smart checklist” of your own. It may even be longer than 4 things, but it’s not going to be all that long

For example, you say you want bone skills and crit for bone skills, so those would be 2 things on your list. I imagine you would also want intelligence, so that puts your list up to 3 things. Ideally you wouldn’t want more than 5 maaaybe 6 things.

If you see an item that has 2 awful stats, it’s not a good item. If you see an item with 1 awful stat, it might be salvageable

You should have a list of what is good for each of your item slots and if the rare doesn’t have 2 of those affixes you trash it immediately.

It’s not that complicated.

I get you. I kind of wish the game was able to calculate total damage increase and total effective health when comparing items.

Yes im aware mate, I know what my build needs but most of the crap dropping is just… terrible.

I have an idea but I just wanna play and mash things up, theyve made this way too difficult and I come from D2, D3 and POE. Theyve just made what I thought would be nice and chill to yet another rough time sat determining if that Yellow can be made Orange with my aspect, or that Orange can be imprinted.

Its stupid and I cannot be bothered lol.

It can’t because of all the conditionals. Your damage varies wildly depending on conditionals.

We know this.

Thats what we want though. They over-complicated it and it wasnt needed.
