Evade change please

Honestly, I love the fight mechanics and I love the evade. It reminds me a lot of guild wars 2 and I love that! But imho, and I’m sure some will disagree for whatever reason, it needs an I frame. Without an i frame it isn’t really an evade or dodge, just a short cool down movement skill. Kind of boring honestly, I want to be in the action and dodge attacks with an I frame and stay in the action as a melee. It adds even more skill than just running out. All of the issues I had around mechanics (not skill issues as I finished everything with a barb on vet) were all based around how lame it felt to “evade” an attack and still get hit by the tail end of it. All of the good games with a dodge give an i frame for this reason. I think this should change. Agree or not, that’s my feedback to the devs!

No, it does not need any dots or lines or anything like that.
You can read their animations, for example when the Vampire dude with a big sword winds his stun move you have about 2 seconds to press space, if you can’t do it, then you get stunned.
It is purely a player problem.

I frames != Evades. Every big attack in D4 has a looooong wind up animation like the overhead swing from that goats or the impale from the sword fellas. They are so long you can walk out them no evade needed. Evades are just the cherry on top of movement for people who are… struggeling with it.

Couldn’t agree more! The attacks are all slow and wind up! Super easy to run out of. That’s boring af to me. I want faster reaction and a legitimate dodge ability and I want to stay in the action. Not just run out, ok back in, now back out, ok now back in lol

I use evades a lot and always go for the Evade charge boots. In mass pulls evades are nice. 12 Goat dumbos wind up their attack and you simply slide out of the impending doom while waveing at them.

in 1v1 fights (or even two or three enemys) you simply use force move and you are out.

Everything over 3 mobs is a gamble for me because I’m old and ill and lazy af so I use evade and while completely talentfree I still manage to have a good time. Almost all cases of dieing are a me problem with little cases where I think “Nani?” and move on.

D4 is pretty well made and random 1 shots aren’t a real issue and you mostly know pretty much what you are up against after fighting enemys for 2-3 seconds.

So far, on the two easy difficulties. But for now you are right! I’m thinking long term with proper hard fights. I just think it’s a winning mechanic that is used in most of the amazing skill based action games. So why not?

Long term we are fine with what we have. Needing a little tiny bit of skill for something is nice. If you pair up all the little skill requirements D4 needs to play it in a effective way you have enough to do and a fun experince for my taste. Evading is fine but I-Frames are there for developers who can’t code a real dodge mechanic.

The bosses do even get faster and hit harder as their hp lowers.

Eh, the frames can lock you in a bit too before we get some Atk Spd.

Those Ashava 1 arm circle slams were something I had to rely on a dash to get out of, 'cause using an evade wouldn’t carry me far enough in time to avoid getting hit by it.

The 2 arm circle slams were slow enough, but that first one would clip me basically any time I tried to be stingy with my dash charges (or was lucky enough to be right near the edge for an actual evade usage.)

If you stand around and wait to see what they’re going to do next, then yeah, you can walk out of a lot of the various attacks in time easily enough.

Ashava arm swings after she jumped. If you are fast enough at her side again to smell her armpits you are save and only have to look out for the poison puddles and the the dirt throw attack and never have to use the evade button at all.

Ground indicator circle, not the big sweep circles. The big sweep circles are easy, but for melee the slams were a danger.

Also: No, she usually bites after she jumps (or does a breath, if you’re that far into it.) Then you get to worry about either a slam or a sweep.

No. This isn’t dark souls.

Yep, 100% agreed.

I think that’s why so many people love it. It gives a mild sense of Elden Ring/Souls/Guild Wars 2. It’s a fantastic idea. I think survivability is a bit rough at the moment, and having 1 I frame isn’t going to break anything. It just gives a tiny bit of survivability.
